Say Hello to PyScript with WebAssembly and Python - Talk Python to Me Ep.367

Despite Python being overwhelmingly popular and positive, there are major areas of computing where Python is not present. Most notably on mobile and on the frontend side of the web. PyScript, a new project launched by Fabio Pliger from Anaconda, just might change that. It was made public and announced at PyCon just two weeks ago by Peter Wang and now has over 10,000 GitHub stars. But what is hype vs. reality vs. projected hopes and dreams? We're going to find out on this episode. Fabio is here to tell us all about his new project.

I like how at 2:12 it looks like Fabio does a minority report hand gesture that switches his side of the screen.

Cool project but definitely needs to have better documentation. I tried to write a basic hello world and couldn't figure out how to do imports / modular code (absolute necessity for this project to succeed). I looked at the gravity example, tried to move a print_hello_world function to hello.py and import it using the pyenv html tag and it just wouldn't run. I'd just get a blank page. A better 'stack trace' for any import errors or pyenv errors therefore also seems very important.

Hi Michael, great episode - been hearing a lot about pyscript for the past couple week. You mention early on the episode you did a test app with pyscript. Can you please post a link to it or the repo, so I may check it out? Thanks!

You guys are insane, sorry. Love the podcast otherwise... But I'm usually quite a late adopter, so I could be wrong.
