Wildwood Story Time • Greg's Old Telecaster

Let's take a moment to appreciate something other than guitar shredding for a moment. Sure, we live and breathe stunning guitars. We all quest after tone, and want to see players tear it up online for hours on end, but there's something deeper that goes when you see a player run up and down the fingerboard. There's depth to the mind of a guitarist that needs to be appreciated -- history, ideas, creativity, expression, pseudo-insanity -- all of it exists beneath the surface, and sometimes we just need to take a little time to listen. Join us for this special series -- Story Time with Greg Koch.

A telecaster is like a farm tractor...it can do it all, its easy to work on, and it gets the job done, never lets you down. And its a modern art masterpiece to boot!

I love how Greg learns riffs and styles from the old greats and then proceeds to play it all better than the original players ever could- Amazing player

A 68 Tele blonde with maple cap #240858 was the second Tele I owned, I had a bigsby fitted to it and traded it 25 years ago. I would love to know where it is now.

Never sell your guitars. You'll always want the one you haven't got.

If you get used to a Tele, no other guitar will feel as comfortable, truly something about the shape and weight & balance...it as comfortable standing as it is sitting in your arm chair. So its very easy to bond with that way. Then, the sound and play ability...its all there, and you dont feel too bad about moding a Tele if you want to....its like a farm implement, but for music.

I will be buying a guitar from Wildwood because they think enough of their guitars to have Greg demo them !

I find it slightly amusing that the older we get, the newer guitars are being classified as "vintage"! Those lovely CBS made teles that had a clubby lousy neck, funky paint and strings that never would line up over the pickup pole pieces no matter how hard anybody tried are being looked at hard because they are more affordable? I think there are some new ones being made today that put those stinkers to shame!! To each their own?!

Bought my first guitar 30 years ago. It was a cheap Les Paul knock off (didn't know what a Les Paul was then) for £60. It was black with binding etc. I sold it to mate who then proceeded to spray paint it purple. No longer a friend. When I listen back to recordings of it, when I wasn't that great on guitar, I realise it had such a sweet tone. Wish I'd kept it. Lesson. Never sell your first guitar!

WG = Much like crack cocaine I would imagine. Short, blistering and leaves you hurting with guilt that you need more.
