I think the song "In a Big Country" by Big Country deserves more recognition.

Crowded House "Don't Dream It's Over" is a beautiful work of art, earning them 3 MTV music awards. Dan Hartman 's "I Can Dream About You" was like a come back for him. He was Originally with the Johnny Winter Group. He both composed and sang vocals on their signature song "FREE RIDE" May he rest in peace.

A great underappreciated song is The Promise by When In Rome. I have always loved that song! Another one that is little known in the States is Another Nail In My Heart by Squeeze, check it out for one of the great guitar solos of all time by Glenn Tillbrook!

Tears For Fears was the first concert I ever saw when I was 14 in downtown Chicago! They were amazing, especially their early stuff like Pale Shelter and Mother's Talk!

As I was born in 81, most of these songs have a special place in my heart. I look forward to your 90's video, because I was also there for that.

Woohoo shout out to Crowded House & NZ! They're very very very well known here - great band 💕 the brothers were in Split Endz too who are also a primo band, I saw them live in early 90s in Christchurch & they were fantastic - drove 4 hours (8 return) there n back in one day just to see them!
Eta, imo 80s are the best years for music

Although I am a child of the 80s, I don't think I ever heard "Forget Me Nots" before today. But, wow, Will Smith sampled the HECK out of it for his MIB song!

Some of these are strange choices because some were huge hits and some I've never even heard of! But my choice for most underrated song of the 80's is Perfect Way by Scritti Pollitti, it was a hit but it should have been way bigger than it was! Such an amazing song!

"Waiting for a Star to Fall" by Boy Meets Girl is probably overlooked due to the pair's other big songs. Oh, not for themselves, but for Whitney Houston: "How Will I Know" and "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)." They offered "Waiting" to Clive Davis for Whitney's sophomore album but he turned it down (which actually led to "I Wanna Dance" getting written and recorded) and then they offered it to Belinda Carlisle who did record it (story goes, though, that Carlisle wasn't really happy with the song so she didn't include it on the "Heaven on Earth" album). After those two strikes, the pair decided to record it themselves.
