Body-boarding is so underrated. No matter the conditions, whether it’s sloppy or perfect, you can body-surf. It’s so much fun too, you can barrel through waves that surfers couldn’t even try to barrel through. I love surfing but I love body-boarding just as much.

I grew up body boarding in Hawaii because my mom wouldn't let me surf. I now just moved to Puerto Rico from Austin and am going to turn 50 - born in '71, same year as the 'boogie board.' :) Walked to the beach here at San Juan yesterday- new years and there was almost no one in the line up. Can't wait. Thanks for the post and a little history. *A.

Bodyboarding is a special thing to do in the world

I used to surf and having two kids threw me outta surf shape. Bodyboarding has allowed me to get back in and actually charge more waves and complexity than I ever thought possible.

Wow, this is so good. I remember body boarding as what I did on the New Jersey Shore as a kid. So cool to see the history of this sport and how extreme it actually is. Will there be more of these @redbull?

You have to investigate Peru’s culture, 10, 000 B.C “Mochicas” made totora boards, they fish and ride waves many years before Tahitians or Hawaiians

Great stuff. I have bodyboarded in both Cali and Hawaii and have only ever heard negative comments from surfers in California. Like the guy said, as long as you're having fun and respect the ocean and others, in Hawaii it's all aloha
