UPDATE 2022.08.06: Much of the guided installer discussed in this video is currently in a broken state, and will hopefully be fixed soon!

Thanks for 2,000 subscriptions!

Can the latest Arch get any easier? This video demonstrates:
* Official ArchInstall 2.5 with the new menu system
* Kernel 5.18
* ZRAM
* SSD/NVMe Options
* Snapper to quickly handle BTRFS automatic snapshotting
* Menu Boot from any Snapshot to recover your system safely!
* KDE Plasma 5.24.5

Have fun!

UPDATE: Thanks to @dktol56 's comment about the rollback confusion and me second guessing myself (LOL), I just destroyed this installation by deleting the entire /etc/ directory, rebooted to a working snapshot, and recovered the entire system via a rollback successfully. So everything works as advertised! Lesson learned - the next time I demo a system rollback recovery I'll actually destroy the system first and show it "live." :)

Thank you for teaching us so much about GNU/Linux. I'm now a happy Fedora user and I´m not going back to Windows!

Congratulations Stephen! Your videos are not too long; they take what they take. They are very informative and useful.

I agree! Not too long, but complete. This is exactly what attracts me to your videos. You take the time to explain the what AND the why. This is crucial to those of us who are learning these new platforms. Thank you!

Thank you sir, I was having a real hard time getting snapper working correctly following the Arch wiki. Your steps worked for me

Excellent content. Thanks for another very informative and detailed video. As far as I'm concerned, none of your videos are too long and some could even be longer. Please don't sacrifice quality in the way of depth and detail to satisfy an arbitrary opinion of what a time allotment should be. Please continue to make the length of your videos whatever you think it should be.

Hi, I found your channel this weekend and have been watching the video about the Fedora immutable distro Silverblue. I tried what you did with Kinoite since I like KDE more than Gnome. It worked till suddenly the Virtual Manager crashed. I have too look into that now.
You started this video by saying people have complained about the length of your videos and so this will be a short one. What is your goal with this channel? Is it to teach people something new so they can benefit from it, or is it a hobby to show what you do with your computer, or ....? My guess would be teaching others and if that is the case then the videos can't be long enough. Please keep trying to explain things as best as you can. Great channel, thanks.

Hey, Stephen. Great video. I know shorter videos probably get way more views but your longer videos are a little nugget of gold on Youtube. Very few people are making longform content about Linux on here and as a new initiate to Linux it is greatly appreciated. So, my recommendation would be to intersperse shorter content with a few long ones.

If I may selfishly suggest, I'd really like to see a series where you explain the inner workings of Linux via Arch to beginners.

Cheers! :)

I'm confused. When you rebooted into snapshot 6, which is a rw copy of pre snapshot 3, shouldn't kdenlive already be gone? Why do you still have to do the rollback?

wow, snapper is convoluted. i don't remember 100% but I think it was opensuse where its rollback system all just works automagically. fedora uses LVM2 which is very nice.
currently on debian and i'm just making a whole ass backup of the system with timeshift haha. downside is I don't think that shows up in grub so if you really manage to nuke the system you're SOL.

ps. is the arch installer "100%" yet? I don't want to have to do version specific research before I install when endeavourOS is an option.
