Volume is a measurement in the 3rd dimension. This means that it not only has width and height, but it has depth as well. Let's watch this video in which we get a great explanation of how we measure volume.

Pre-Algebra on Khan Academy: No way, this isn't your run of the mill arithmetic. This is Pre-algebra. You're about to play with the professionals. Think of pre-algebra as a runway. You're the airplane and algebra is your sunny vacation destination. Without the runway you're not going anywhere. Seriously, the foundation for all higher mathematics is laid with many of the concepts that we will introduce to you here: negative numbers, absolute value, factors, multiples, decimals, and fractions to name a few. So buckle up and move your seat into the upright position. We're about to take off!

About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.

Khan Academy really is a blessing. Teachers like Mr. Rob that can communicate a subject like math better than any teacher I've ever had..man...

And it's absolutely free? What did we do to deserve KA? ❤

Mr. Rob is the reason I'm passing my college math class right now, so, thank you.

Explanation of the video (in my own brain): 1d is just a line, so all you have to do to measure 1d is measure the length of it to get the answer. 2d and 3d, however, both have formulas to get the answer. For 2d, the formula is LxW (length times width, can use base as length too). For 3d, the formula is a little more complicated. Its formula is LxWxH (length times width times height, again, you can use base as length). Don't switch anything up or with anything for the formulas. You do the formulas, you get the answer. Hope this helps and is a good explanation!

According to M-theory there are 11 dimensions at least. I think there is a 0th dimension: energy. 4d = time. I think we live in the 4th dimension.

Oh, ok. I was doing something with triangular numbers and area, then I moved up to tetrahedral numbers with volume. I kept going further up with Figurate Numbers and it started looking like that method for measuring pi, except the first answer would have to be 1. I can't remember what I did, but the question still stuck in my head.
