Agree with @Dewayne Scott, looking at my previous pairs of Evo's and finding myself asking "Which one has most least tread left! " If the SpeedGoat 5 embraces most of the elements of the Evo, then I guess I will try that next and let the Texton X accumulate more market opinions. Happy Holidays !

Thanks for the review, just a question, would you take it for a 70k race? Used to race in Speedgoat4, but I love the more stable feel of the Tecton, just not sure if they are plusj enough for long races, as I got the shoe recently

How's the fit compare to the Altra Olympus 4, I have really wide feet and finds the Olympus 4 quite fitting.

Seems like the carbon fiber plate is the way several running/trail companies are going to. ? ? Sounds like you’d rather go with the evo speedgoat vs. the tecton ?

I still cant come to grips as to why the Evo Speedgoat was discontinued. I got a pair and just flat out retired them because I love them so much. Will give the Tecton X a try and hope the Speedgoat 5 comes close to Evo Speedgoat.

Would be good to know how the new lugs on the Tecton perform in the mud. The Speedgoat and Torrent lugs have worked perfectly for me when it's wet or really steep and loose, when other shoes with smaller lugs have failed. But it's also sometimes too much when not as wet or on flatter trails, and I'm always looking for the sweet spot.

I’m excited for the tecton x. After 5 pairs of the EVO Speedgoat. I’ll still continue to buy if I can find my size. I’m even contemplating getting the Speedgoat 5. And taking an upper from the EVO and midsole/outsole from the 5 making my own shoe. If I can make it work haha

Nice review glad they feel wider than the Torrent had 1&2 and they felt a bit tight disagree with the outsole the hoka compound rubber on the Torrent wasn’t very durable on rough rocky trails my lugs bust off a few times the vibrams much better! The Zinal probably feel similar because of the similar outsole I’d say the Zinal for short fast races up to 21km ? Then Tecton X takes over! I think the parallel carbon plates deliberate to act like a dual suspension on a car Anyway keep up the good work can’t wait to try these and Sauconys new carbon trail shoe as well.

Great review! Best explanation of the nature of the shoe I've seen so far - especially with the explanation of lateral flexibility.

Do you think this will be a shoe that the elite hoka athletes will run 100 milers in?

I'd be interested in trying this. I pretty much moved on from a couple years in the Speedgoat because I found the single density foam just lifeless and mushy with no responsiveness. It was cushioned, sure, but I felt like after hours in it I was just working too hard. Salomon solved this with the Ultra Glide giving you far more bounce than the SG. Gotta say though, I'm not paying more than $120 so god knows when I'd be able to pick this up.
