Hoka Tecton X First Run Review: Early impressions of Hoka’s carbon plate trail racer

The Tecton X is Hoka’s first carbon plate trail-running shoe, and it actually has two carbon plates in the midsole to provide some extra pop to your off-road runs. The Tecton X also has a dual-density ProFlyX midsole and tips the scales at a fairly light 260g/9.2oz (UK 9). All in all it promises to be a fast and nimble shoes for your trail races, and we have been itching to get our hands on it here at Run Testers HQ.

A few of the team have the Hoka Tecton X in for testing and we’ll get to our full multi-tester review as soon as we can, but for now here’s Nick’s first impressions of the shoe after a 23km Sunday long run including a nippy 5K to check out the shoe’s speed.

Look like a great shoe for me to get I. Future, my 2 favourite trail shoes are hoka torrent and Scott supatrac rc.

These Hoka seem to be great, but i will wait for the new Salomon Pulsar Trail and Pulsar Trail Pro, i think they will be a better choice when compared to the Tecton X, at least on terms of price they will be cheaper, we have to wait until they are available to compare with the Tecton X. Cheers.

Is the heel counter very stiff? I used to love Hokas but many of their recent shoes have counters that are too solid for me, even with what feels like generous padding. I get real issues with heel abrasions on both feet. As you say, the US/UK sizing is different from other brands so perhaps I need to go up a size...

do they have any other colorways planned in the future… I am seriously considering buying this, for the fall trail races this year… would be the first time paying close to full retail since the Clifton 7, $120 USD.

leftfield in context of the vid how did you adapt to running with so much nutrition on marathon race day and do you ever think it may cost you time?....or balanced against the stress of getting fuel and know is tailored?
