So I first DM'd during my time in prison, I had an amazing amount of fun and it was a huge time killer planning out an adventure.

The most fun aspect for me was making a world, having an idea of how the adventure wanted to go, and then watching the players come up with amazing solutions to the problems and dealing with them.

Yes I done wrong in life and ended up in prison, but I was able to bring joy to my fellow prisoners, make the most of our time, and as a group we learned to better cooperate and work within rules no matter how they were set.

Tell any forever DM that you want to be a DM and they will help you make that happen

I started playing D&D which is my first TTRPG experience about 1.5 years ago. I started as a player in a group with my friend as DM. My partner and her siblings wanted to get a “family” game going. I volunteered as DM as no one else wanted to. Fast forward to today about 1 year into my DM experience and dare I say I am enjoying it more? I love to play games (video/board game, etc) but what is a different and a fun experience with being a DM is being able to invite players into “my” game.

I wish someone would do a podcast style interview with Chris about DMing. I could listen to him talk for days

Noob DM for 2 different groups here! I have been absolutely loving DMing! As I've chronicled my journey here on youtube, the D&D community has been so welcoming and helpful. Thanks everyone!

This interview is so fun and encouraging for new and old DMs alike. Could we please see a monthly series of 15-20 minutes interviews about "what happened with your DM experience during this last month"?

If you are a new DM, try to learn the rules and then incorporate the philosophy of "Whose Line is it Anyway?" Where "Everything's made up and the points don't matter." Because unless you are making it your career and trade, it's literally just make believe, just have fun and foster fun, and if the rules are in your way bend them to your will.

19:33 - 100% this, you just need to do it and accept your first few sessions might not be great but everyone will be so apprciative of the fact you stepped up to do it.

My first session was wild. I wanted to play and dungeon mastering was the only way to play with my wife and friends. I did LMOP and the party took all the hard lefts vs following the subtle clues. Haha. It’s hard as an adult to get everyone together.

If you're thinking about running a game for the first time, do it. Just DO it!
It is so much fun and the only pressure comes from your own expectations. Give yourself permission to go slow, pause to figure stuff out or backtrack, and tell your players you'll ask for their help if you need it.
What have you got to lose?

HtBaDM: a player makes the mistake of using Wish to have Ultimate Power, which causes the DM jump up in Joy screaming "Free I'm Free at last! Now *you* are condemned to be the Forever DM!" He then ran off and created a Coffee-Lock.

I've just got into dm'ing, and am writing my own stuff. It's amazing how much just flows onto paper when you just start writing

When I'm introducing new players to the game, I tell them that the first rule of D&D is that everyone has fun. If someone isn't having fun, we're not playing by the rules.

With all the tension between Wotc, Hasbro and the fanbase, I still have to say, I'm really happy that we have Chris.

I think he is a great custodian for the game.

I DM’ed a one-shot as my first experience as such in the dungeons of drakkenheim world of our normal game. I was a bundle of nerves the whole time and realized after the fact that it was a total railroading situation so I could obtain a magic item I invented. It was on a boat ride through a swamp in the Roll20 vtt environment so things disappeared under the boat, the boat would be moved leaving the untroubled player tokens drowning in water, lost track of items in different layers, had players roll saving throws when they should have done ability checks. It was rough, absurd and frustrating but also so much fun and a great learning experience. If you wanna do it, just do it and expect to suck. You probably will unless you really know the rules and mechanics well. Give yourself grace and you will have fun. It’s just one of those things that you have to do so you can learn, even if you have read the core books front to back.

I DMed my first game last month with a few coworkers who have never played before. It was fun and challenging seeing that not only was it my first time dming, but playing it as well😅

I've been. forever DM since 1982. Best. Role. Ever. Nothing beats seeing players eyes light up, their imaginations expand, and welcoming everyone and everything to your world with a constant ability to change and adapt a story and world. Pure creative and artistic joy.

If we get an Advanced Dungeon Master Guide with tips for more experienced GMs, that would be amazing!

been dming now for the past 12 years and I learn something new from both other dms and all my players and have gleaned so much from watching people like matt mercer, Todd Kerick and Chris Perkins and many other that dm it is refreshing to see just how other interpret the rules.

Will the dmg documents ever be able to be added to campaigns on DNDbeyond? The form fillables are there, and I want to use them but still need paper or shared version in a separate file location.
