Is B&H Payboo Worth It?

B&H Photo Superstore in New York City announced Payboo. It's a credit card backed by Synchrony Bank which offers customers the ability to get back their sales tax by the way of rewards. It means that if your state's sales tax is 6% then your rewards is 6%, if it's 10% then your reward is 10%. The reward is used as statement credit. Know that the APR of the credit card is 29.99%. Instead, I recommend checking out my project Photo Idō which offers photographers the ability to save at local independent camera stores without the need for a credit card.

Thanks for watching and if you like this video, remember to share it with your friends!

It's been a fantastic card for me. Sometimes I go with Amazon if I need something fast but definitely any larger electronics purchases are being made using the Payboo card. I pay it off within a week of the charge posting and so it's like paying cash but getting a 8.25% discount.

I know this is an old thread, but the BH Photo payboo card only works for "serial purchases" -- I mean a situation where you continue to buy items from BH Photo, and you use your payboo savings from purchase A on purchase B, and so forth. I don't want to be obligated to spend my "savings" at BH Photo; I like to be free to shop for camera accessories where ever I choose.

Although I’ll admit whoever at B&H thought of the word payboo needs to head their head examined, nocking this concept because “if you don’t pay it there is a %30 interest rate” is silly. If your not responsible enough to pay your credit cards you shouldn’t apply for them.

Be responsible with your finances and you won’t have any issues.

Most retailers who sell on-line do not pay local taxes where they're shipping. Most cities / states lack the resources to audit anyways

Is there a credit limit to this card? What's the maximum purchase I can make?

Sales tax refund is awesome. I buy from B&H using the Payboo card and pay off the entire balance. Also the 2 day shipping is excellent, too. I have other credit cards with 1.5% cash rewards and I get a lump sum cash back at the end of the year. And I spend it as my gift and buy toys from B&H.
If you can manage your money adroitly, cash back features on many credit is awesome.
I used buy many electronic toys from Amazon since they did not charge the sales tax, now it is all changed due to greedy government money mongers. Sure B&H and other giant stores are getting richer, but if you shop smartly: you win. California charges 10% or more sales tax while the cost of living is skyrocketing.

You pay interests no matter what. Not only when you miss a payment. You messed up normal bh credit card with offers 0% for specific number of months. And if you dont pay it in specific time then you pay interests. Payboo offers only tax „return”. Count what is worth mkre for you: get 7% back in rewards and pay 29.99% in interestes or get 12 months with 0% financing.

You have your own agenda

Nothing to do with a honest of their credit card

Yeah that 29.9 percent is high..it's a clever way to sway away from sales taxes, but that flexibility to pay it off is low..and I've read that even if you pay off the debt...you're still obligated to pay for the "safe card" option...

This video needs to be updated since it contains information that is Not current. Photo Ido no longer exists to offer alternatives.

Is there a list of stores that are a member of Photo Ido? Your website states there are 12 stores signed up but I could find only 5 that were named.

You have absolutely no idea of what you're saying, with the recent supreme court ruling EVERY online retailer HAS to charge sales taxes, so yeah no lying from B&H. Get your facts right.

Say your state sales tax is 10%. You buy item A listed for $1000 in B&H. You have to pay $1100, you get 100 Payboo credit. You then use this 100 credit to buy item B which is $100 in B&H. You have to pay $110 (because Payboo credit is only good at B&H). You get 10 Payboo credit. You add up the list price of items A and B, that's $1100. You then add up your out of pocket expense thus far. That's $1210. Guess what, you are paying 10% tax. You can keep buying from from B&H and play the Payboo credit, you always pay 10% more than list prices.

Typical credit card rewards are 1-2%. My state's sales tax is 7.8%. I'm delighted to let B&H/Payboo pay that amount in my behalf. It doesn't affect any purchase rewards earned at B&H in the least. My experience with B&H for many years has been nothing but positive.

Local anything can pound sand. They're over priced and have crap customer service.
