The commentators are so stupid you could clearly see it was a foul ball. And if you're a batter and got a hit and run or you're protecting the runner on a pitch out, This is how you protect him.

It's not illegal to throw the bat at a pitch

It’s a hit and run. He’s gotta swing lol

"We do know Pena was hit on the glove with a thrown bat" 1. The bat hits the ball before it leaves the hands. 2. The ball hits Oena on the hip, not the bat to the glove

LMFAO the commentators are so oblivious.. Rewind and it's a foul ball that hit his hip.. Lol

I think the foul ball (not the bat) hit him on the hip.

How did they not see the ball get fouled and hit Pena in the leg?

I mean, yea, the bat throw shouldn't have happened, but the bat did not make contact with the Pena.

It looks like the bat slipped out of Molina's hands.

Smart play, he was protecting the runner

Ump knew if he ruled against Molina he'd get spit chump.

The bat did not hit the catcher anywhere. It was the foul ball that hit the catcher squarely in the hip. The announcers were mistaken.
No baseball infractions.

I would have drilled Molina on the next pitch he caused Pena to possibly be injured severely. You rule it a foul ball fine but you have to accept get thrown at there is a likely action due to you hurting the opposing player.

Saying the announcers are stupid is actually stupid. The MOI (Mechanism of Injury) IS the ball itself. However the ball, bat, and glove were all in the exact same location. Ball starts flying, bat gets thrown level with Pena's hand, ball fouls off the bat and once it does it makes it to Pena's hip split second. Pena's hip starts to hurt so he recoils his entire left side. He then quickly removes his glove and when he jogs a bit he doesn't give any real signaling of pain towards his hip. This being an intentional ball Molina shouldn't have tried to swing in the first place. Yes it's allowed but when a catcher is stepping that far out and standing up it's not that hard for the batter to see that movement. He intentionally threw his bat full stop.

Yes they should have caught it on replay and I can say that 100%. Yet with everything making it look like he was hit in the hand? Then that's where everyone is going to look. Crazy how Youtube will allow you to rewind, pause, slow down, and analyze an incident but the announcers do not have that luxury while trying to pay attention to literally everything in the ball park. All from a booth way off in the distance.

What should be said is that Molina is stupid for throwing his bat in the first place. Whole thing wouldn't have happened if so.

Announcers are so blind, they will say anything from, “he was hit by the BAT” to “he twisted his ankle while regaining his balance and hurt his medula oblangata gluteus Maximus ” when the only clear answer as to what happened comes from someone watching on YouTube that he obviously got hit by the baseball coming off the bat straight down into his thigh. 😒

One guy lets his bat slip to protect a runner, the other sells it like that bat actually hit his right hand and not his glove. Both trying to get creative to make the play go their way.

If it’s not a foul ball it’d be catchers interference right? Molina was still in the batters box when he swung.

It was a foul ball, and then after the bat hit the ball, the ball hit the catcher in the upper part of his left leg.

They only do t hat for intentional walks otherwise that’s illegal catcher is not allowed to be that far out like that

therealbrendanc

He did not throw the bat on purpose and what was the catcher doing anyway he’s not allowed to do that

Umpire clearly made right call, broadcasters are clueless
