Ghana has confirmed its first two cases of the deadly Marburg virus, a highly infectious disease in the same family as the virus that causes Ebola.

It says both patients died recently in hospital in the southern Ashanti region.

Their samples came back positive earlier this month and have now been verified by a laboratory in Senegal.

Health officials in the West African nation say 98 people are now under quarantine as suspected contact cases.

Thank Ghana for detecting and managing a virial contagion. They deserve a mark of gratitude compared to the mishandling of covid's release.

This is really sad to hear this! My family is from Ghana specifically the Ashanti region, but I was born in the UK. I wish all the people in my home country have a better life and hope the government puts strategies in place for healthcare and prevent the locals from having the virus. 🙏🏾

There is good news and hope in the details presented here (virus is not airborne contagious and has not spread massively).
Best wishes to the people of Ghana.

This is terrifying 😳 Ebola scares the crap outta me. I remember when it was rampant in the Congo I think it was and they were absolutely devastated. Praying this won't be anything like that.

Africa is the only place not asleep at the wheel when it comes to early detection of potentially pandemic infections. Sad that they need to be on top of things, but their work remains underrated in other parts of the world.

Love and healing from Australia. Sounds like you might hopefully have this worked out to contain it. You have the experience.
The world is going to have to be gentle with each other, and hard at working together.
The least powerful country or person can stand as an equal to the most powerful country or person. This is where we need to be with the world as it is now.
