Can you trust Avast?

Now, if you don’t know, Avast was fined over 16 million this year, due to storing and selling user data without consent through their subsidiary. Along with this fine, they were ordered to make some big changes, which included starting a privacy program. While that’s a move in the right direction, and they’re said to have shut down such operations, it has no doubt made a stain on their reputation.

In terms of actually detecting malware, it's a lot more positive. Independent testing institutes have given Avast a 100% rate in detecting 0-day and 4-week-old malware. Earning them the highest rating of ‘top product’.

While they are making changes to how they operate and becoming more transparent with their users, whether you will consider using their software or not is more of a personal choice. I will say they do most things right in terms of security architectures and practices, but I won’t tell you to invest in a provider who engages in such activities.

I use it very happily from a third party seller and my yearly plan for its Premium is barely $2/ year.

All antiviruses use our data, no matter which company, so, isolating Avast alone, makes no sense at all.

It's so much better than almost all other competitors.

They don't deserve our business. If they don't lose a lot of business due to dishonesty, they, and others, won't fear doing it again.
And getting caught doesn't make people inherently honest. It might just make them more cautious in evaluating the risk/reward of future dishonesty.
But people like that won't do the right thing because it is the right thing to do; They might because they fear getting caught again.

I miss Total AV. But too expensive so I went with Avast may God make it work like it should bc detected malware in the pc's memory but even with malware as bad as it is my lappy was working smooth most of the time.
