KGM SsangYong Torres 2025 review: Does the new Kia Sportage rival offer more than just tough looks?

The 2025 KGM SsangYong Torres represents the first step in a hard reset for South Korea's number-three car brand. For one, it's the first model to bear the new KGM brand name, which is now progressively replacing SsangYong. Secondly, the Torres is an all-new model, one which finds itself competing in the highly competitive mid-size SUV segment against the likes of the Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson.
So, what does the Torres bring to the table? Well, there's no denying it's looking to stand out from the crowd with its exterior design, which seemingly attempts to evoke the idea of a rugged 4WD. At the same time, its interior is thoroughly modern, while a 120kW/280Nm 1.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine is under the bonnet.

It is unfortunate old Ssangyong and now KGM they don't want to offer 7 years warranty to NZ consumers.

I have a ssangyong korando for 3 years now, and Im going to keep it at least 6-8years. Its really a well balanced car with no quality issues whatsoever. I use it on generaly bad roads day to day, and I can safely say my back it didt get worse, the car holds up fantastic on the ride quality. 🎉😊 I drive a manual and it works wonders on fuel economy. I get between 7, 2-7, 6 L/100km.

they should look at a bigger engine and use the 1.5 in a hybrid. Also if they borrow the 2.2 diesel it will have a wider audience

Ssangyong needs to do much better with pricing & quality to play in the current market as people know only Hyundai & Kia from Korea
