US Soccer announces 'historic' equal pay deal with men's and women's national teams

US soccer has reached a 'historic' deal as equal pay for both men and women is achieved as a result of a lengthy legal battle. The US Soccer president said the game has been changed 'forever'. The announcement comes after a long-running legal battle between US Soccer and the US women's team that was recently settled.

utter horseshit. they were offered the exact same deal as the men (paid on a per game basis) turned that down, negotitated a contract meaning if they didn't play they'd still get paid. Then decided that was unfair so again tried to negotiate with the US Football association and told them that they want to get paid structure the men get but want the benefits that they got from their deal... i don't think i've missed anything out

I would like to mention the world cup years the women made more than the men, but under the men's deal would have made even more, but at the same time the men would have made more under the women's deal, plus they were offered the men's deal, but turned it down as jrs more performance based

Think it's just a way to pander to the feminism trend. Is the demand to watch women's football as high as men's football? Is the quality of women's football as high as men's football? I'm all for equal pay for women but it doesn't work in sport. Look at Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano. You reckon they should be getting paid the same as AJ and Fury would if they were to fight? Would you put the Women players in the WSL on the same wage as KDB or Salah? Of course you wouldn't. The bottom line is that in sport, the more people that want to watch you, the more you're going to get paid. Why should the women's national team earn what the mens do when womens football doesn't get anywhere near the eyes on it that mens football does. Its about the product. You're going to spend more money on a brand new BMW than a old clapped out fiat because more people want to drive the BMW. In everyday life, I'm all for it. A women firefighter should earn what a male firefighter does. A women teacher should earn the same as a male teacher but it doesn't work in sport. They know the reality going in to becoming a womens footballer, if you don't like how the pay works because nobody watches womens football then dont do it
