U.S. Women's National Soccer Team signs historic equal pay agreement with U.S. Soccer

The U.S. Women's National Soccer Team made sports – and world – history on Tuesday when they formally signed a new collective bargaining agreement, guaranteeing that the No. 1 women's team in the world will now get the same pay as the U.S. men's national team, which is ranked 14th.

I think it fair that they should receive equal pay especially after beting the Nigerian National Team and after beating ANY national men's team. Unfortunately when it comes to professional play the players are paid from the takings and in the men's and women's world cup there was a giant disparity in the taking where the take from the men's was in the many billions and the women's was in the $200 million mark but the women were paid a percentage something like 3 times that of the men but still way less in dollars.

It would be good now to see a friendly between the national men's and women's teams whereby the takings could be quite rightly be fairly split and players like Rapinoe etc should be able to qualify for being on the men's team, call it an "open" team.

Remember this: professional venues which provide the pay would be far more equitable if the same audiance that supports either teams were to support both teams. This will require the same standards to be shown by both teams.

People generally have this wrong .
It's only a thing the American men and women agreed to.
You will NEVER see Team USA getting the same as England, Germany, Spain, Brazil or Argentina etc.
They say 1.6 billion watched the Mens world cup final But half that 74 million watched the women.
Yes I could say for a while team USA raised the profile but still mostly in the USA.
But now Europe has caught and past them with the teams and especially the facility they have at the BIG clubs.
Football as it should be called is soo much bigger in Europe.
Top mens players earn £350000 a week plus endorsements.
Obviously the American situation is different, if they want to share prize money fine.
That's because women's football seems to be as popular as mens, maybe more popular.
But Facts if they played in England they would probably be a tier 4 or 5 club.
As it is we all know now after team USA mouthed off about how great they were only to get badly beaten by an over 50 s team of men and a under 15 s and some other minor team.
If U find it entertaining then fine but no one tell me they play with the Skill and Pace of Madrid, Munich, City, Inter, Even English Division 2 which is level four after premier league, Championship and league 1.
These male kids get signed at seven etc.
Mostly U have to judge it on the global TV audience ( double for mens ) and the revenue it brings in.
Quick note, any woman wants equal pay in Tennis better start playing best of Five not Three.
As McEnroe rightly said but got crucified for it that Top womens player probably couldn't beat any man in the top 250.
Team USA will never be as dominant and it was mostly down to " FOOTBALL" being known more as a womens sport in the USA...
