A correction.
In the control options "Teammate control", the assisted (default) setting will make the players run only forward or towards the attacking direction, but with the manual setting, you can force the players to move in any direction.
Its a lot more flexible and unpredictable, but its also very confusing to use which is why barely anyone uses it.
In manual, the action L1+RS only selects the player to make the run. Keep pressing L1, and choose (RS) the direction you want the selected player to run, or change that direction at any time, for as long as that player is selected.
In practice you are literally controlling the run of a second player.

Its a very powerful tool, but its a heck of a lot to ask of us to control the run of a second player while staying in control of the primary player on the ball.
Together with all the intricacies of the gameplay, its just too much to do and rely on.

The assisted setting is not as flexible, but its simpler, and since the players will mostly position themselves in context to their playing role, it will work, not perfectly, but good enough.

Is there a limit on the amount of times you can do this during a match? I went into a match just to practice this, so I was doing it alot, and after i did it roughly 10 times the function to make players run off the ball stopped working (it's not that the player was running slow like when they have low stamina, the function wasn't working at all for some reason).
