Friends: How Rachel Was Wrong About Everything

Friends’ Rachel Green is a hilarious and highly relatable comedy heroine, who was such a compelling character because we got to watch her grow so much over the course of the show’s 10 seasons. But the reason she had so much room to grow is because she started out with some pretty wrong ideas about life. She spent the show’s run learning and evolving, and often fumbling… But she always managed to get back up in the end with the help of her friends. So let’s take a look back at what Rachel got wrong, how she overcame those negative mindsets.

The older I get the more I appreciate Monica. I think the fladerisation worked a bit for her...they play up her control freak nature and that used to really annoy me...but she is so consistently kind and her control issues make sense when you realise how she lost weight to be treated like a human and her mother was awful to her. Anyway her kindness won out despite her being difficult to be around at times.

As I grow older, moving to Paris with a baby and no friend or relative around when she probably doesn't even speak French sounds more and more like a nightmare than a dream. It's not like Rachel chose to become a stay at home mom in some Midwest town, she'll get a job in fashion again, be in the same country as her parents and friends, her daughter will grow up with her father and she'll be with the person she loves.

Rachel didn't intend to announce her pregnancy at Monica's wedding. That's a bit misleading. Phoebe found the test, assumed it was Monica's, and Rachel still didn't say anything. When everyone found out and everyone assumed it was Monica's, she still didn't say anything. The only people who knew it was Rachel's baby was phoebe (who found the test) and Monica and that's because Rachel accidentally took a sip of champaign and had to spit it back out.

Just because we do not see Ross interacting with Ben in the moments that the screenwriters chose to include in the later episodes does not mean that Ross "forgot about Ben." I don't think there is any evidence of that at all in the show.

1.) Rachel did not graciously give up the date with JCVD, she was basically forced to, and even then she screwed Monica over with a lie.
2.) Rachel was absolutely wrong to go to Ross's wedding flr the reasons she did, but she didn’t derail it - Ross did that on his own.

Oh come on, Ross didn't forget Ben, the writers did. There was never an indication he wasn't a good father to Ben. He was involved, he knew what's going on between Ben and his classmates, for instance. And there was a deleted scene back when he was with Emily, when Emily wanted him to move to London so he tried to convince Carol and Susan to move there with Ben. He clearly cared about his children and was involved in their lives. Rachel was very wrong to just drop this on him, and like with Carol and Susan, the show did not call out this unfair devaluation of his place as the father of the child.

The worse thing she did was abandoning her big career chance for Ross.

I think it would be much better for Emma to be in a place with two parents as well as other relatives who love her than to be in Paris with just Rachel, struggling to figure out both a foreign language and a probably extremely stressful new job. And Rachel was doing well enough in her career that I have no doubt that she would continue to do really well in NYC. So the idea that Rachel was just giving up her dream so that she could be with Ross seems to me really misguided. Regardless of whether she and Ross stayed together as a couple, I still think she likely made the best choice, and I think that reason is why she made the choice. Which really, if true, would show a lot of maturity on her part, in my opinion.

I disagree about the end. She left Barry because she didn't love him or the life she would have if she had married him. In the end of the show, she put her relationship with Ross over the career opportunity, because that's the life she wanted. Her whole goal was to find and pursue a life she actually wanted.

Her worst decision was going back to Ross, getting pregnant and leaving her dream job in Paris . Ross and Rachel bring out the worst in each other.

It always bugged me that Rachel was talked up as being brave enough to "Make it on her own", without her swanky rich lifestyle. While it's certainly admirable, her pals still had to bail her out whenever she messed up.

The fact that the video says that Ross wouldn’t have cared about Emma since the show doesn’t show Ben at the end somehow means he’s a bad father when
He clearly isn’t like what ? Ross had a lot of toxic traits but claiming he would’ve forgotten about Emma bc the writers forgot Ben existed is unfair to the character especially since the writers forgot about Emma in the final too meaning that according to the video Rachel would be a bad mom

You got a couple of things wrong but I really believe Rachel had one of the best character development arcs in this show

I wish people would stop asserting Rachel was wrong to choosing love over her job in Paris. How do we know she genuinely didn't realize that she preferred a life with Ross over her Paris job? Why do we assume that "every" woman would be happier giving up love for a job? It's not like Rachel completely gave up her career either. She just gave a career in "Paris". She can still have a thriving fashion career in New York. So maybe she decided it was best of both worlds, staying in New York and that she wouldn't be happy in Paris away from Ross and her loved ones.

How is it Rachel's fault Ross said the wrong name? You said your self she said nothing. She's just a guest supporting him then. Not her fault she can't control the actions of others. Sure she probably got in his head by being there but if Emily was who truly wanted that wouldn't have mattered.

Maturing is realizing Rachel was the Mean Girl, while Monica is the misunderstood.

I still love the scene when Rachel and Ross see their first ultrasound but she cannot see the baby 😂❤

To be fair, lots of women forget to turn off curling irons & straighteners, that’s why many shut off automatically. Also Rachel didn’t announce her pregnancy on Monica’s wedding day, Phoebe found the test & assumed it was Monica who was pregnant. Once the truth came out Monica forced Rachel to take another pregnancy test as a “wedding gift”. She didn’t steal Monica’s baby name, Monica gave her permission to use it.
