In this video I will show you how to change MMS to TXT messages in Samsung Galaxy

There are two settings where you can fix the text messages go SMS and void the phone to automatically convert it into a Multimedia Picture Message or MMS.

To do this, on your Samsung Galaxy phone, go to the Messages app, now tab on the little the dots (menu) and select Settings. Go to Text messages and Select Input Mode. From here, you will see three options:

GSM Alphabet, which is limiting to only normal characters to be allowed in text messages, this will give you 160 chars per message.

Second option is Unicode, which sets it to allow special characters and Emojis, this will ilmit the message to 70 chars max

finally automatic, which will be fixed automatically based on the contact of the message. If the phone is not doing it properly, you should select GSM Alphabet and thus restrict it.

Second option is to set the phone Multimedia messages option to Restricted, so that it wont allow mms sending, unless you include a picture or video. This will block multimedia messages on the phone

Well, I know that it is 3 years later, but I am thankful for the info. I just couldn't find the way to do it but you saved me the agony of trying to find a way.

Neither of these techniques work on my brand-new Samsung Galaxy S10e Dual Sim 128GB G970. I selected GSM Alphabet but it still instantly converted to MMS, even before I wrote anything, so the length of the message is not the problem. Then I clicked on Settings/More Settings/ Multimedia messages but there is nothing about Restrictions - I see only Group conversation, Show when delivered, Show when read, Download automatically, Download automatically while roaming, and Attaching unsupported files. I blocked Download automatically and Attaching unsupported files, and it still converted to MMS. Then I restarted the phone, same thing. HELP!

My Samsung Galaxy s10+ kept flicking back to emojis while I was typing - was very frustrating - the predictive text/suggested text would stay there for half a second and go back to the emojis. I followed your instructions and changed the settings in 'Text Messages" - "Input mode" to unicode as described and it seems to have solved my problem. Thank you!! (I hope it lasts because this little glitch was driving me mad!)

This is very helpful but for the second option my Galaxy A51 does not have the Set Restrictions options - why not?

Was a little different on my phone but thanks to your video I got a general idea of where to go for this.
Very useful, thanks a lot!

Sometimes this problem doesn't get solved even by following above steps. This is because the there is is an inbuilt limit. For example, in my phone, if I typed more than 454 characters it would automatically convert it into MMS, so I rephrased my message to send as SMS.

Thanks for this help. One year later and not only has Samsung not fixed this problem with an update but their site is useless. I will definitely be changing phones asap.

No such "Input Mode" on a Note 10 Plus. Any suggestions on how to get rid of "Converting to Muiltimedia Message" that constantly pops-up and blocks my keyboard? Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you! But I had to change to GSM text, even using unicode and restricting MMS will still create MMS messages on my phone (Galaxy note 9)
