Honestly Chris and Jeff were the reasons i even watched Blizzcons to begin with. Every announcement and talk had such good energy so i am glad Chris is doing a comeback.

I really am hopeful that he swings the direction of this game back to the original feel. It could truly re-invigorate this game and bring back ancient crusty nerds like myself (although I never left really!)

Feeling really nostalgic about this. Reminds me of the days I watched your videos together with Jesse and Totalbiscuit.

I think we all wish we could go back. R.I.P.

Thanks for keep making videos Crendor

I think the idea of Chris Metzen being back meaning we get Classic+ is definitely putting the cart before the horse a bit, however if they do get Classic+, he is definitely someone who would have good ideas for it.

FINALLY. I've been wanting them to implement his WoWRP lore so badly. Classic or Retail. He's an asset. Azeroth isn't Azeroth without his mind.

We already knew he was back and he was involved in a major way, but I’m glad they announced it now so people regain some faith in the game with regards to story/narrative and world design. And thinking about it, now I’m really looking forward to seeing him on Blizzcon. I mean, he has to do the opening ceremony, right?

Battle for Azeroth was a really rough expansion, but it was also the last time I think a lot of us veterans felt we could recognize the IP. Shadowlands took the franchise in a wholly new and weird direction, spinning off into new and original cosmic content that, while interesting at times, felt extremely alienating. Dragonflight hit the brake on that and pulled us back to Azeroth, but a lot of people, myself included, feel that it's all still very alien. It doesn't really mesh with what Warcraft was. The "Friendship is Magic"-approach to conflict resolution and what not just doesn't have the edge that old Warcraft did. And whether you like edge or not, Warcraft was always edgy. It was born out of 80's and 90's DnD, nerd and metal culture, basically reframing Tolkien's works with a heavy metal and goth aesthetic. Stripping away that edge leaves you with a fundamentally different, far more generic product, that many of us simply don't feel at home in.

Simply put, Arthas and Illidan didn't become some of the most well-known and renowned videogame villains/antiheroes because of their moral complexity and ambiguous intent. They did so because they are some of the most videogamey characters ever created, perfect for a medium that was born out of the basement dwellings of dorks.

Many people regard Warcarft as Metzen's baby, perhaps unfairly so. And let's not forget that Metzen *for years* tried to turn Warcraft into the story of his self-insert character Thrall, and people used to hate it. It's easy to forget that Cataclysm, WoW's first major misstep, suffered in part because of how players who had been enjoying their adventures felt sidelined by the obvious "main character". Metzen's presence alone is no guarantee that there are good times to come.

That being said, I still think his return might be a net positive, because at least he *gets it*. He was along for the ride when Warcraft, Diablo and Starcraft flourished and he knows (and embodies) that classic Blizzard identity. He was instrumental during their golden age, when everything they touched was a hit, because it nailed the essence of what good videogames are supposed to be (fun. They're supposed to be fun). Maybe he can help pull the narrative and overall aesthetic of the game out of the "saturday morning cartoon"-slump it's currently in and rebuild some of Warcraft's identity. That being said, a lot of what's weighing the game down gets decided at a corporate level, and he won't have any influence on that. He won't be able to remove the WoW Token or even just take Trader's Tender off of the cash shop. And those things ultimately matter more than whether or not the Horde feels like the Horde and the Alliance feels like the Alliance.

As a final note, I'm by no means suggesting that *inclusivity* is the problem here. I think the Warcraft IP has plenty of room for genuine and interesting diversity. That's not my point. I'm not talking about "returning to the roots and getting rid of all that..!" or anything like that. But I don't see why the classic identity of Warcraft should somehow run counter to ambitions in regard to inclusivity and diversity. If anything, I think it provides a far better foundation for genuinely interesting stories in that regard.

How about a cap in the store that reads: "METZEN- MAKE WOW GREAT AGAIN" just a thought.

I never realized how much Metzen meant to me before this video. The amount of faith I regained by hearing this news is insane. Gods I want to see him on stage at Blizzcon again. I never thought I'd want to see Blizzcon again.

1) I will play "Classic+" if they do it right. But if they are even thinking of adding level boost and especially wow token, HARD pass! Maybe that's why they charge 50 bucks, hence no token?
2) For the love of God if they add High Elves (BEs) please update the bow animation to newer one. Was a big welcomed change later on. Old animation is aweful. A simple toggle would work.
3) Scarlet Monastery raid. Considering how popular SM dungeons have always been. Fill the empty and unfinished areas with content. Many places on the world map to add more.
4) If they will add housing which was a plan for Vanilla back in the days, don't make it like in WoD. Last thing we need is "empty" servers where people sit in their houses and "farm/craft" all day.

Can we count on him getting enough of a creative control? Can we count on him to still have that creative spark?

I dont know what good this will do as a whole, feels like a band-aid and those only help so much with a gushing wound.
I hope for the best for those that are still hanging on to Warcraft (or Blizz in general) for whatever reason.

I guess we’ve all just conveniently forgotten about how he knew about the years of abuse and was content to let it slide
