First Space Walk Without a Harness

This is the first untethered spacewalk. Small part of me find this to be a possible terrifying experience. The possibility of being stranded in space without being held to anything and having your "jet pack" fail. Just glad he made it out.

That would be both terrifying and incredible.

You train for scenarios that you hope never happen

And I believe the space shuttle had enough delta to actively chase and grab him if the Man maneuvering unit messes up.

I'm surprised he didn't fall back to earth from the massive weight of his steel balls.

To me that photo of him alone, with the earth in the background, was one of the most beautiful photos ever taken.

Kerbal Space Program taught me everything I needed to know about EVAs and translating movements in space with a jetpack lol

What a feeling it’d be to feel absolutely nothing at all and to be weightless

I would like to remind flat Earthers that this spacewalk shows round Earth way before Photoshop was even an idea.

I was lucky to have met him back in the day, when he visited my lab. He pointed out that if you ever see a photo of an astronaut floating freely like that, it's him, because it was the one and only time that happened.

Also that the red rings around his thighs are so that the astronauts can identify eachother during a multi-astronaut space walk. They all look the same in their suits, so for example a single red ring around each thigh meant it was Bruce.

I'd rather be grossly over-trained then grossly under-trained

If I go on EVA (Extra Vehicular Activity), I'm not seeing my spacecraft again

I think awe-inspiring is a pretty decent way of saying it. It encompasses the fear but also the amazement
