***Excerpts from the Laws of Badminton:***

16.4.1. Under no circumstances shall play be delayed to enable a player to recover strength or wind or to receive advice.
16.4.2. The umpire shall be the sole judge of any DELAY in play.

16.6 A player shall not:
16.6.1. deliberately cause delay in, or suspension of, play;

The umpire shall administer any breach of Law 16.2, 16.4.1, 16.5.2 or 16.6 by:
16.7.1.1. issuing a warning to the offending side; or
16.7.1.2. faulting the offending side, IF PREVIOUSLY WARNED; or
16.7.1.3. faulting the offending side in cases of flagrant offence or breach.

***How to issue warning and faults (Technical Regulations)***

5.17.3. When the Umpire has to administer a breach of Law 16.2, 16.4.1, 16.5.2 or 16.6 by issuing a WARNING to the offending side (Law 16.7.1.1), call “Come here” to the offending player and call:
“... [name of player], warning for misconduct”, followed by a specific explanation of the misconduct (BWF Statutes, Section 4.1.5, Section 5).
at the same time raising the right hand holding A YELLOW CARD above the Umpire’s head.

5.17.4. When the Umpire FAULTS a side (Law 16.7.1.2 or 16.7.1.3) the Umpire shall call:
“Come here” to the offending player and then call:
“... [name of player], fault for misconduct”, followed by a specific explanation of the misconduct (BWF Statutes, Section 4.1.5, Section 5).
at the same time raising the right hand holding a RED CARD above the Umpire’s head. The Umpire must call the Referee on court and report immediately.

If you ever wish a video to be taken down, all you need to do is ask and i will take it down immediately.

I have worked hard to build this channel and would be sad to lose it for something so trivial. Thanks for understanding. Peace.

its unfair how marin hardly ever got point penalty for delaying serves and multiple warnings, but sindhu got right after one warning

Sindhu is never known to play unfair. Even Yamaguchi was not ready. That umpire should have been banned for a year at least.

Giving umpire absolute authority is completely and utterly stupid. Umpires are not there to display power over players, they are there to ensure fainess. If players can challenge a line call, they should be able to challenge an umpire's decision too. The idea of not allowing players to challege umpire's decision makes umpires become arrogant, because they think they can play god. The tournament referee should be allowed to review slo-mo replay or hawkeye of ANY situation to judge the umpire's decision once per match.

The Umpire was blind in Sindhu's case. Yamaguchi was not ready; she was delaying purposely to regain her breath. Sindhu was leading three points. The Umpire has gifted the match to Yamaguchi.

umpire’s decision against the sindhu literally boiled my blood., . umpire’s should be held responsible for unfair play in both the cases

Another example why tournament referees are useless. What's surprising is this thing has been going on for too long. A lot of bad umpiring and poor decisions made worse when umpire calls cannot be reversed (even when there's a clear error). I'm also surprised this matter is not looked into and not improved by BWF, instead BWF is only interested in unnecessary changes like the point system.. Smh.

How unfair to Sindhu, that point that the referee stole away from her could've meant that she advances to the next game, someone needs to have a talk with the umpire about doing his job correctly

I do wonder why bother having a tournament referee when all they do are just convincing the players and coaches to accept whatever decision the umpire made, even when it is clearly a misjudgement or not within the bounds of the rulebook. I love this sport but seeing moments like these are just... come on BWF.

The irony is they penalised her to make game faster but due to argument that player and umpire engaged int it went on for way longer.

Imagine beating HE BING JIAO and then losing to akane due to the umpire, PV looked like she would have won the whole thing

I think Tournament reffere plays an important role during this situation, but they didn't do anything just came to court then they convince the player to play and this thing should be change in this sport (It's better reffere to see the replay of particular situation)

First 2 cases seems to be influennced by personal grudge or external political. Most important question is whether WTF took any action against these dirty umpires, if not, then it is a bad message to everyone. I personally feel that the japanese girls shouldn't have shaken hands with the umpire after the match, they should have shown their displeasure where ever possible.

Bwf should really look on this matter, Sindhu's incident being the recent one makes us feel that there will always be monopoly amongst who the umpire wants, but the chief refree should have atleast gone through the replay or have seen in reverse the entire incident, but the bald old men came and said that the decision is already made, if so then what's the need of him, he could have guided whomsoever was wrong and if so then have corrected, but that hopeless creature did nothing and was of no use, similar like the umpire sir, bwf should really interfere and should take action.

I think that in these cases, when it is clear that there is a wrong decision by the umpire, the opponent in badminton who won the point should have the integrity to admit and tell the umpire that they should not get the point, and if that doesn't work have the respect to give the next point to the opponent. Similiar to how viktor axelsen gave that point to chou tien chen in a match. There is no honour in winning if you do not deserve it, and it is no victory either

We can see yamaguchi is still shadow playing the racquet when the refree called a fault, how can sindhu serve at that time.

this is what you called rigged! especially sindhu vs akane. and for kevin’s match, I think the umpire needs another pair of glass. Apparently, 4 eyes isnt enough! Hope they lose their job!

I see the majority of comments talking about the mistake made against Sindhu, which I completely agree with but I think the umpire denying Hawks Eye is far more serious

I don't know why no Actions are still taken against these foolish umpires.. The tournament authority should apologize to Sindhu for that..

This video explains clearly why Sindhu was annoyed to the umpire during the match vs Akane in Asian Championship 2022.

crazy things is that 2nd game for sindhu was so close that the point she lost was so crucial
