Woolworths is probably the biggest supermarket chain here in Australia.

Not only in the UK, I dare to say. I recall somewhat fondly their outlet in ... Höxter in ... the West Germany. A youngster might not understand the prefix "West" in this case and I have to stress it, as my memories immediately go back to the end of 80s. Being barely a child, normally living behind the Iron Curtain (Poland), any shop like that, had a profound effect on me, because we could barely drean of having anything near to it in Poland at that time. Thanks for sharing a video about it - nostalgia galore, at least for me.

I got an amazing Shareware CD from Woolworths when I was 8 or 9. I think it was called Tech CD 3. So many cool games, Doom, Duke Nukem 2, Halloween Harry, One Must Fall 2097?, Skyroads, Raptor call of the shadows, Fuzzys space mini golf...

I used to buy toy dinosaurs at Woolworths when I was 7.woolworths was everywhere in the USA.where I lived in NYC, woolworth himself is buried in an ancient Egyptian styled moseleum within a giant cemetery one block away from me.but the funny thing is Woolworths stores never really disappeared, they just started selling sneakers and changed their name to Footlocker.

The Woolworths in the US were from F.W. Woolworths Company, no relation to the ones in Australia or UK. They were sort of general merchandise but also drugstores. They're all gone in the US now, I think. Back in the day, some Woolworths had a diner inside of the store - a lunch counter where you could have a nice lunch, snack, or coffee. That's my best (US) Woolworths memory!

In the early 2010's I would often see old consoles selling, on my local market, for £5. Mega Drives and PS1's were particularly abundant. Yep, PS1's for a fiver. And 14 inch, 90's, CRT TV's. Easily pick one up for £5. All of those things are now five or six times the price.
My abiding memory of Woolworths is that it was one of those "Let's cut through here" shops, in my city centre. It basically served as the entrance to the shopping centre. The central pass-through isle dominated the floor space, it was easy to forget that there were actually goods on sale either side. They were basically renting the overall space of around a dozen individual units, in terms of the shopping centre unit layout, just as an access route to encourage people to pass through the store.

Woolworths was a thing in the US in the 70s and I have lots of fond memories there. I got my first Atari pong console there and Atari combat.

I got a Telstar arcade there on bargain as they went out of business in my area.

In the US, Wooworth's, being a "Five and Dime" store as they were known for here, typical wasn't specifically known for much besides being a place with discounted goods and whatever store brands provided, along with its famous lunch counters or restaurants. We never had Pic 'n Mixes or whatever the UK guys got to have, but they did sell video games into the 90's before they went belly up. I best remember the pet aisle with the hamster and parakeet bins.

John Menzies was the best store back in the 80's for Spectrum games; they always had titles that I couldn't find anywhere else. I loved that shop, no idea if they're still going.

Woolworths, wow. My fondest memory of there was buying my SNES from there with my 12th birthday money. It had only just been released a month prior, in April 1992. Got the Super Mario World bundle, which as I remember cost £159.99. A very cool moment of my childhood.

I remember seeing Woolworth's as a child in the mall, but I rarely went in there. Woolworth's may have closed in England but they live on today in the US as Foot Locker. Shoes are more profitable than dollar stores. They make shoes in cheaper labor markets than China such as Vietnam for a dollar and sell them for $100.

The Woolworths in my neighborhood had an arcade cabinet with super Mario Bros 2 and 3 in them. I was surprised even back then, you wouldn't consider those arcade games.

I remember going to Woolworths tentatively with a friend, seeing how many sweets we could get on the pick and mix for 6p - The girls in there always gave you more sweets than the money allowed!

God I still remember buying a green gameboy pocket and Pokémon red with my birthday money back when I was 7.. I live in the states so some of this is foreign to me, but it’s nice to see the comments with others recalling their childhood purchases and excitement
