In this video I cover metal bluing 3 way, first I do hot gun bluing (sodium hydroxide/lye), then I do hot oil bluing, and finally I use cold gun blue.

For the hot bluing I use 625g of sodium hydroxide in 1000ml of water. The water is slowly add to the Lye to avoid boiling. Then I bring the solution up to a gentle boil. from there I submerge the metal in the solution and rinse occasionally in hot water.

The hot oil bluing is quiet easy, I heat the metal part until it is red hot then quench it in oil, repeating as necessary.

The cold gun blue uses pre-made bluing solution that is required to be thinned 3:1 with water. I then submerge the part in the solution and gently brush the part whilst in the solution to get an even finish.
