⬇️ Pass the CSCS in 12 Weeks ⬇️

In this video I will explain the structure and function of muscle tissue, from the whole-muscle level down to individual sarcomeres and myofilaments. We will examine actin and myosin filaments, describe the function of a motor unit, and work through the steps of the sliding filament theory.

Fun fact: The sliding filament theory/ events at the neuromuscular junction/ crossbridge cycle is my absolute FAVOURITE thing I have ever learned (so far!) in my whole undergrad career in university. It is the coolest process ever and blows my mind how I don't even think about moving my finger muscles when, for example, typing this comment, but somehow my brain knows to release an action potential in order to get to get my fingers to type. Not only that, but as I barely move my fingers to type, the crossbridge cycle is still happening probably a few hundred (?) times. So amazing that we were created to be this complex!

So awesome learning how muscle contractions really work. The fact that people figured out all the little components of a sarcomere and how they work together to create muscle contraction is crazy!

Thank you for doing these lectures, very helpful in preparedness for the CSCS!

Even though I have leaned the sliding filament theory before, I always need a refresher. I always forget the lines, and bands. This was a good refresher on this topic.

How a muscle really works was one of my favorite topics to learn about in AnP, and I'm so glad we are going over it again. I always found it odd that the muscle cells contain multiple nuclei, but never knew why until now!

Its been about a year since ive been away from the Dr Goodin lecture videos, good to be back.

This video was a great review of the sliding filament as well as the actin and myosin bind.

I loved how you went in depth about how muscle contraction works. I've seen a diagram of the sarcomere but never really understand what was going on. However, your video was the first time I thoroughly understood what happens when a muscle contracts. I think it's really cool to know that the brain releases action potential to parts of my body and sends signals to move certain body parts. It all happens so fast that I don't even think about that!

This is a great reinforcement of what Dr. Sawyer bis currently teaching in Exercise Physiology.

I found this to be a great anatomical review of the muscular system- the sliding filament theory explained was a lot easier to follow than any other way i've previously learned

A much needed and concise review of sliding filament theory and structure. I'm looking forward to learning and applying content this semester.

I like how you gave key points at the end so that we could full comprehend your in-depth lecture! Thank you!

It is so fascinating to me that all of these different phases are happening and all the components moving in such a short amount of time whenever we contract our muscles. It is especially fascinating when you think about different activities that require a quick reaction time and fast movements that this process is taking place to allow for these movements!

I really appreciate how you use images to also explain what you are talking about! As a visual learner this is something that has always been helpful to me with your videos. For example the way you explain the sliding filament ligament with images helped me gain an even better understanding of the movement!

I learned this in Anatomy and Physiology two years ago, but completely forgot how specific and intricate the sliding filament theory is. This video was a great refresher. Enjoyed the key takeaways after each topic introduced.

Super great refresher from Anatomy and something that definitely needing refreshing for me. Always interesting to learn about the how more actin and myosin binding is what defines how strong our muscles are and that is why our bigger and how more profound muscles can produce more force.

This video is a great overview of muscle contraction and it was a great recap from A&P. Amazing how detailed and perfect the sliding filament mechanism is!

This was a really great refresher of what we learned about our muscles in Anatomy & Physiology when I took it two years ago. It is nice to have these videos to review!!

This was a great refresher of the sliding-filament theory as I was in need of reviewing the bands and how they are affected during each phase.
