The MTV Unplugged Performance in New York feels like a Farewell to Kurt Cobain and the Band.

I never got to meet Kurt, but I've lived in the Aberdeen area all my life, and Nirvana's influence is still strong here. Back in 2009, my old band, Godfed Static, played a Battle Of The Bands for the Kurt Cobain Memorial Committee, which had Kurt's Grandpa, Leland Cobain as one of the judges, and we won the chance to honor Kurt as the opener for Candlebox, and Chad Channings's band "Before Cars" at the D & R Theater in Aberdeen. Apparently we were Leland's favorite of the competition. Kurt was one of my inspirations to start singing, so when we covered "Negative Creep" in front of 1300 people, I pushed myself to the limit like he used to. Chad Channing came up to me after his set, and shook my hand and said "That was fucking awesome dude." One of the best times of my life.

My Dad told me a story once about how he saw Nirvana live in California back in the late 80's or early 90's (He doesn't remember the exact year but we assume it was before Nevermind) and he said he was really impressed with them and that they would go on to become really huge musicians, which he was right. He also remembers when he heard about Cobains death and he felt pretty sad about it. The thing is Nirvana really isn't my dad's kind of music but he always seemed to love them somehow and was part of the reason I got into them, just wish I could have been around to have seen them live.

Whenever I see or hear Nirvana I can't help but think of a girl I love and still love. One of her favorite bands was Nirvana and I still remember the days where we would just sit down and do nothing but listen to Nirvana and other bands. Her favorite song by Kurt was All Apologies, so I can't help but remember the good times I had with her every time I hear that song.

"What are they tuning, a harp? I thought we were a big rich rock band. We should have a bunch of extra guitars."

I live 30 mins from Aberdeen Washington, cool little town. Kurt’s house is pretty cool to drive by.

The Foo Fighters First album was only Dave Grohl and was his way of coping with Kurts death

I still remember the long bus ride before which I had downloaded their entire discography in my phone. At the end of that bus ride I was a Nirvana fan. I must've been 15 or 16 back then.

I've got chills watching this. Kurt was a pioneer and an icon. He still in a way influences music today. Everyone has heard of or loves Nirvana

If you haven't yet, check out Soaked In Bleach. Brings up some serious questions about the suicide. Great band, would've been exciting to see what they could become. I've seen some footage where Kurt said he wanted to do an accoustic album later in his career. Unplugged showed he could've pulled it off

I'm blessed because I was lucky enough to witness them live. That was real. No studio trickery. Just as powerful live as on album. If not even more

I was alive when they were around, but I'm sad that I never got to see Nirvana. I was all set for their next tour. Had my parents convinced to let me go and then I heard the news that Kurt had died... I'm 40 now, and there's never been a part of my life where Kurt, Nirvana, and their music hasn't been a huge part of me.
