In Montreal, back in 74, we used to dance to this song in school dances and house parties. I was 14. Great memories.

I remember hearing it as a kid and never heard it again until decades later. Up until now, I thought it was a song I made up in my head.❤

First time I heard this song, I was 8 years old. It was playing on a speaker in front of a bodega in the Bronx. Stopped me in my tracks. I stood there dancing until it went off. Had never heard anything like it and it blew my mind. Next thing I know they started the Hip Hop jams in the park and this song played at every one of them. I learned the name of it and it became my all time favorite. I even sampled it twice….. and ALL this time…… had no idea it was a female singing lead. Fukin amazing!!!

The Mexican
Babe Ruth, Babe Ruth
He's called Fernandez
Livin' on a gun
Dreams of Santa Anna
Fighting in the sun
Drums so loud from outside
Makes it hard to dream
A rain is fallin' hard and fast
Makes it all seem real
Mornin', come mornin'
A Chico's gotta have his share
Mornin', sad mornin'
Said he must be there
Mornin', sad mornin'
What a laugh, and I cried
And I cry, cry, cry, cry, cried
Mornin', sad mornin'
Mexican
Senorita panning
Chico come on home
Santa Anna's losing
You'll be first to go
Sam Houston's laughing
Davy…

One of the first concerts I ever saw. I saw them in Ottawa with Manfred Mann. I thought it was earlier than 1975 but it must have been the same tour as this.
