That's a 42 year gap from a pre-ww2 open engine prop to a very competitive jet fighter still in service today. The f-16 was introduced almost 50 years ago I can't imagine the air capability the military is currently keeping secret..

It’s just crazy to look back at WW1 and WW2 and see the advancements in technology. WW1 was horses, first gen tanks, planes only used for recon, and bolt action rifles. WW2 was jeeps, trucks, pretty advanced tanks, pretty advanced planes, dogfighting, bombing missions, and fully automatic machine guns. Now we have supersonic fucking jets, stealth bombers that fly at the edge of space, and .50 cal snipers and you can’t forget the .50 cal machine gun that deletes everything in its path, radar and defense systems that can intercept missiles, ICBM’s that fly goddamn Mach 7 and so many nuclear weapons that are capable of annihilating continents. I’m actually mind blown just making this comment and scared of how quickly we have learned and managed to make these weapons of destruction, it’s crazy how war and the thirst for victory can impact thinkers and engineers.
