Anyone watching from Georgia/Sakartvelo?

I am totally down for calling it Sakartvelo instead of having to call it Georgiathecountrynotthestate.

I live in Georgia 🇬🇪. I really wish it was called Sakartvelo because besides it being a beautiful name, it really gets frustrating telling people, "I live in Georgia - the country, not the state".

Georgia (country) is named after Saint George.
Georgia (US state) is named after King George.

When Russia invaded Georgia, the country, I was stationed in Georgia, the state. This led to several friends from high school, who weren't exactly up on Eurasian geography, asking if I was okay, and if I had seen much fighting.

Georgians make a really good cheese bread, in fact they're very big on cheese in general, they even have a dish that's just cheese wrapped in a different cheese.

I'd like to also mention that the title given to our king Vakhtang I by the Persians was Gorgasali which stood for Wolf Head which was changed to Gurgenes by a Roman historian. I was always under the impression that this was where Gorg/Gurg came from in the country names.

4:40 in these times Europeans made maps with the East pointing to the top, we are actually looking at the Caucasus in this frame. The three seas on the left side are the Black, Caspian, and maybe the Aral. And between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea you can see the name Georgia 🇬🇪.

Because Ray Charles thought ‘Sakartvelo on my mind’ didn’t sound as good

6:50 i think you might be referring to "gorgasal" (means wolf head in Iranian). It was a nickname for a great georgian king vakhtang IV who, according to legend, had a helmet shaped of a wolf head.
Greetings from sakartvelo 🇬🇪🇬🇪🇬🇪🎉

Video idea: "Why do Hungarians call their country 'Magyarország'?"/"Why does the rest of the world call Magyarország (a variation of) 'Hungary'?"

So, in short, we call them Georgians based on the name George, but they call themselves Kartveli based on Kartlos.. which is basically Charles... Ironic...
Another interesting fact is that Saint George was from Cappadocia... next to Georgia, and he really has nothing to do with the name we use :D

5:00 – Map has north to the left-hand side, so "Georgia" is under the long horizontal mountain range and beside the long vertical axis. Almost where it actually is in reality.

I think it's perfectly fine for endonyms not to mirror exonyms. People reference the request from Turkey / Türkiye but even that nation has exonyms it uses for every other nation and the vast majority of those exonyms are not the endonyms used by those nations.

Funnily enough, the Greek word for farmer is γεωργος, whence the proper name George comes from
