We went out on the streets of Milan, Italy to ask foreigners what their views of China were. We talked to people from Italy, France, Vietnam, the UK, the USA and more to get their candid responses, and were quite surprised at what we found.

The biggest problem I have with people in the west who suddenly care about Xinjiang is: where were you when your country supported all those invasions and coups and bombings in the Middle East? You care so much about a supposed genocide in Xinjiang where almost no one died, but what have you done to address and compensate the fact that over a million Middle Easterners died and tens of millions more had their lives ruined as a result of your country and your alliance's actions, which you had a much more significant impact on and duty to stop? The Xinjiang allegations are the west's whataboutism to distract from their own undeniable genocidal history.

I am Chinese, and I want to say our government has done and is doing a great job. We made huge progress with the leadership of our Party, and we have one of the most steady societies in the world. We inherited great culture from the 5k years' history. I love our culture and am still learning the wisdom of ancient Chinese. I hope our great culture will help people all over the world. Although there are many negative news about China in western media, I believe a real China will be recognized by more people day by day. Thanks for your video!

Thanks, very interesting topic.. I’m Hong Kong Chinese, held a little negative view on China in the past until one day I went there. China is an interesting place, you need to go there and see it yourself. I encourage you to go there and see the things there. Like the Chinese food, have to taste it yourself.

As a French people, I have the impression that the opinion in Italy has nothing to do with those of the French. In my country, I have only heard bad things, from the young people with the Uyghurs (camps..), the old people criticize China in relation to trade competition, even my university professors are unhappy about China. And the worst is the media misinformation.

Italy is a country friendly towards China. If you interviewed Germany and UK, probably it would be totally different.

As a Chinese living in Canada, I thought all of us living in a different country should have the experience of reading lots of news that are talking about same stuff but having totally different focus and conclusions. So we should know what media is. But I guess many people never really think about it.

You just cannot change the bias. When USA ban Tik Tok, people believe that it is for national security. When China ban Google and ang Youtube, people saying there is no freedom in China. 2 countries are doing exactly same thing. They would not think USA has no freedom and China did it for national security. Because they have opinions before anything happen. Whatever happens doesn't matter because they would use their opinions to understand the news. Would not using news to shape their opinions.

Surprised to see 2 men that used to live in China still thinking a country has more freedom if it has Youtube and Google. Because Google is what they use so that must be good. It must be "free" and whatever media in China is not. So Google must not in control or affects by anyone? I guess not but they ok with it because they trust it. So in their standard it is still "free', but media in China is not. But in Chinese standard they trust Chinese media more. They cannot accept that difference. The logic here is we all doing the same thing fundamentally, but whatever you do different from me, it is you are wrong because in my standard you are wrong.

As a Chinese living in the UK. Hand on heart, I must say, I prefer the Chinese government a million times more than the Tories or Labour… why? You just gonna experience yourself and you will know…

Interesting interviews! It's incredible to watch the Yorkshire lady immersed herself in a fantasy and even was moved by her own "noble" doings.

people have a negative thinking about china because they are all brain wash by a western media. And most of them are also not visit china and looks at them self. As what i always say dont always judge a book before you read the the book. I am Malaysian living in dongguan but i know that china people are nice and alot of city are clean even its convenient for people who dont have a transportation when Living in china. The most important things is china is very safe country. 😁😁

When I heard the Yorkshire girl could get a master degree doing a thesis about Uyghur through only second hand articles, never been in China, doesn't know a single word of Uyghur or even Chinese. I know how mess up Western education has turned into..

Thanks a lot Lee and Olly Barrett for interviewing people in Milan about their opinion on China. And most of their opinions are subjective and bias and also Anglo-Saxon based information, and they have never been to China. Well done!

That last interviewee is a smart guy. He recognizes there can be a different governing system that brings development, happiness and unity to the people, which should be the goal of governance. He is fairly well informed and have the critical thinking skill to form a more objective opinion.

I am from South Korea and I have positive view on China. No country has the rights to tell others "you have to live like us".

Asking questions about China to complete strangers in a Western population would be awkward because of the anticipated negative response. Kudos to you blokes. You interviewed a good cross section with well thought out questions and their answers are about what one would exoect, especially in regards to sources that shape their opinion.

The Yorkshire girl interview is a very sad one. The girl definitely don't have any skill in investigation or research in general. And the fact that she did a paper for her studies on the subject and still end up miss all the holes is kind of embarrassing. How good could she be at her job if she can't even do proper research or at least see the problems in the sources she is using?

Loved the video Barretts. I made a suggestion to your channel to do street interviews about China so thank you for doing it. Btw, feels bad for that lady doing useless Uyghur research based on fake news and information.

Very interesting interview, show a case, most people always have a neutral view on a unfamiliar thing until they start paying attention, and then they are influenced by the media. To change it again, it is likely that they need to experience it themselves.

Barret family are interviewing others. —Can't believe it. —So shocked, —at the same time it is marvelous.— More pragmatic points of view. Please dear Barret family. Stay awesome

This is a great video guys. From this video, so interesting to see people get their news about China from the media. I would love to experience China personally when China re-opens to the world.
