Apparently Strother Martin did his speech perfectly every time but it took multiple takes because the players kept cracking up laughing.

All based on true story by Ned Dowd and his sister, Nancy. In the movie, Dowd is Ned Braden played by Michael Ontkean. Dowd played for the team the movie is based on, the Johnstown Jets. Dowd is in the movie as Ogie Oglethorpe, who's based on real life hockey goon, Bill Goldthrope. The Hanson's are based on the Carlson brothers, Jack, Jeff, and Steve. Jeff and Steve play themselves, as Hansons. Jack Carlson couldn't do the movie, because he got called up to the Minnesota Fighting Saints of the old WHA. So, Dave Hanson, who also played for the Jets, played Jack. And actor Jerry Houser, played Dave, whose name was changed to Dave Carlson in the movie. The apartment Paul Newman's character, Reggie Dunlop was actually the place of Bruce Boudreau, long time NHL coach now with Vancouver. A couple of the guys who played Chiefs in the movie, were actually Jets players. One of them was the blonde haired defenseman. So much more and to numerous to mention here.

i was in a brawl like that when i was a bantam. we were an american team and we were playing a canadian team. we would get suspended for fighting in USA hockey, but not internationally. when we played international tournaments, we would not fight cuz we wanted to win the tournament, but this brawl game was just one town vs another town. three toronto kids buried my left winger and i picked one off the pile. he stood up and he was huge. i was 5'6 so he had at least six or seven inches on me. he pretty much rag dolled me, as there were no refs to break up all the fights. i made it out alive and actually it was fun.
