"They Listen" is a GREAT title, and more accurately describes what people in the modern day are *actually* afraid of about AI (harvesting and misinterpreting our personal data, paranoia about faked info, over-surveillance).

Tau is a good movie in the genre. Maika Monroe, with Gary Oldman as the voice. Lots of fun.

Your review sounds accurate. Ironically, the horror of this year is that there is no horror in the supposed themed movies.

Also thanks for clarifying that this used to be called They Listen because I had it in my calendar for today (right under AfrAId) and was trying to remember what that film was and why I might have noted it down and where I should go to find it 😆

Godzilla doesn’t love progression of technology. This reminds Godzilla of the atom bomb…but in small computer form…

Blumhouse used to be known for good low budget films and it feels like for a few years now they’ve been churning out shit lol

I wonder how similar this is to Smart House

We want just natural horror. The AI just overcomplicates the story they're attempting to tell. But I acknowledge all the advantages of AI. It's not that bad to integrate it into the film.

I’m not surprised this one was a flop, but it’s such a shame because I love John Cho so much. But damn! It sucks even more knowing there was a ton of promise that wasn’t delivered on! What a bummer. I might take your advice and just watch the first half when it comes to streaming.

You could have ended the review with, "Blumhouse". I used to love this production company now I'd say they have a lot of trust to rebuild.

Is this similar to the tv series Humans?

Had tickets for this but wasn't sure if it would've been better than expected but you convinced me to cancel 😊thanks for saving me time!

I think A Quiet Place already successfully did what this film was trying to do, they just replaced monsters with AI and then had trouble justifying the change? Its so WEIRD 😆

i don’t find technology/AI to work well for horror, at least for me :/ it’s more fascinating than scary. somehow, the horror gets lost in the translation from real world implications to horror film. so the aspects of AI which i find scary in real life, i don’t find scary in horror movies.

The last horror movie John Cho was also the lead in, that forgettable, The Grudge reboot or sequel or whatever that is, tanked. Maybe he should shun horror movies for awhile.

The trailer for this made it seem like just another M3GAN, and felt too derivative of other killer AI type of films. For me, I still enjoyed something like Deadly Friend more than these recent AI/killer robot films.

AI has no central nervous system. It doesn't understand anything. It can't because it's not connected to reality in any way. So, it can have no motive to cause is harm other than bad programming. But bad programming makes a bad movie. AI sucks.
