Self-Driving Cars Don’t Need You!

Welcome to the future of driving! In this video, we explore the fascinating world of self-driving cars and how they are revolutionizing the way we travel. If you're curious about autonomous vehicles, this is the video for you.

What Are Self-Driving Cars?

Self-driving cars, also known as autonomous vehicles, are capable of navigating and driving themselves without human intervention. Using a combination of sensors, cameras, and artificial intelligence, these cars can make real-time decisions on the road. We'll break down the technology behind these cutting-edge machines and explain how they work.

Radar Cruise Control

One of the key features of self-driving cars is radar cruise control. This advanced system uses radar sensors to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front. We'll discuss how radar cruise control enhances safety and convenience by automatically adjusting the car's speed to match traffic conditions.

Self Steering

Self-steering technology allows autonomous vehicles to stay within their lane and navigate curves without driver input. This feature is crucial for the smooth operation of self-driving cars. We'll delve into the mechanics of self-steering and how it interacts with other systems to ensure a safe driving experience.

Self-Driving in Traffic

Navigating through traffic is one of the most challenging aspects of driving. Self-driving cars are equipped with sophisticated algorithms that enable them to handle traffic jams, stop-and-go conditions, and complex intersections. We'll show you how these cars manage to drive efficiently and safely in heavy traffic.

Join us as we take a deep dive into the world of self-driving cars. Whether you're a tech enthusiast or just curious about the future of transportation, this video will provide you with valuable insights and information.

"oh-tamatic" is truly the greatest cruise control of all time🤣

I understand the appeal especially for long distance driving but i fear I would fall asleep with how automated it is 😅 great video Mick.

Self-driving vehicles are like self-feeding spoons and forks. VERY COOL technology, but at the end of the day, most people will want to do it themselves. That will NEVER change.

Totally agree with this video.

Recently, I activated adaptive cruise control on my vw passat nms. First impressions were fascinating. I was curious if I'll play with it for some time as with new feature and then stop using it, but that didn't happen. Now I use it almost on every drive in a city. And that is brilliant! Unfortunately my car can't do a complete stop and than continue driving. That could have transformed stop and go traffic in pleasure instead of annoying part of driving. But my implementation of ACC already did a big difference.

Simple cruise control were usable only during drives between cities when road is almost empty.

I love the M62 between Leeds and Manchester, such a scenic drive

My grandad has a Mazda 6 and has this technology. Once a car pulled out with plenty of time but his car thought we were about to crash so emergency braked for us, pretty scary but amazing stuff.

My mom has a 2021 Volvo XC90 which has these features and I’ve tried it, but it just doesn’t stop in time. It’s very disappointing especially from Volvo since they are all about safety. It will slow down if traffic slows down gradually, but I always have to intervene and press the brake when traffic brakes because it will hit the car in front. If a car changes lanes in front of me, the car will speed up and try to hit that car. Even though it is pretty much a new car, it’s already having many issues like the AC not working, the mirror randomly moving while driving, and the window switches falling off. We’ve taken it to the dealership multiple times and they can’t fix it. I don’t know what’s happened to Volvo but I just don’t trust that car 🤷‍♂️

awesome to see your work Mick! We need a 100k celebration car meetup :) :)
ps: there are also systems where they can get the speed limit from GPS and adjust your speed accordingly on city roads.:) i'm not the biggest fan of this tbh. also about lane assist, sometimes i want to hug the one side of the lane especially passing bigger vehicles with less visibility of me. lane assist put me right on the middle of the lane which is unnerving!

i love adaptive cruise controll.. but i have a manual so traffic can still be a pain

Great video. I have this on my Toyota Yaris Cross and it works well, though freaks me out a bit! Although the car does recognise the speed limit signs, it only then 'advises' slowing down or speeding up the cruise speed. I understand this could avoid problems associated with false info..eg it it 'spotted' a 60 sign on the back of a lorry but you are actually still in a 50 mph zone!

I've been driving my 20yo mini, love it, so mechanical, but I honestly cannot wait to get a new car with all this tech.

Sometimes, I just wanna chill, great vid as per

We were driving Hyundai I40 wagon few years ago. With that line assistant and with active breaking system. Line assistant was able to handle even that slow down quick turns, that are at the entry of the village. Guys in the car were scared, but car was able to do quick right, left, left, right. The only problem was, that it was ringing after few seconds if you do not keep steering wheel.
However the breaking system was not working - we have tested it on a live fence - car just slowly drive into it without breaking. Have no idea why nobody wants to stand in front of the car and let me test it. 😜

My 2015 Infiniti Q50s with a 3.7 liter naturally aspirated engine and 328 horse power, does exactly the same thing. Lane assist keeps it in lane, cruise control keeps distance from the car ahead of me. It is obviously not a full self-driving vehicle. If there was one available to buy, I'd go for it regardless if it is EV or a normal car.

I have this in my Corolla hybrid and it saves so much energy while driving in traffic, as I do about 60km everyday, I completely trust the system but I am still atttentive

Toyota nails this! Especiallyl that it stops all the way to 0. Great vid.

Does these types of automatism work of any weather condition, any street (even with bad painting), detect moto also?

I won't trust it, because it's not true self driving care, it's more partially automatic. For long drive it's really good, but when suddenly there's traffic that stopped in front of you, the car don't slow down until it gets to a certain distance of the cars that's front of you. I feel when you're going 60+ and just about to reach the heavy traffic it isn't sufficient time to stop without it slamming the brake, and that's scary as hell.

Also, since it isn't really self driving car, and it just follow the speed of the cars in front of it, once you get to red light, if you don't take over the car, it will just keep driving. That happened to me as new driver, and that's scary as hell, I'm glad the other car noticed what was happening and did not proceed, otherwise it would have been nightmare.

So yes, it's very useful to have these automated aspects like cruise control and they can be quit convenient, but they're not true self driving. When every I use those modes, I make sure I'm using it in the right circumstance and I make sure to pay attention and always be ready to take over.

Trouble is the self driving doesn't understand the concept of undertaking, so it will constantly undertake.
