The Paulo Freire Birth Centenary Fest (three sessions, 6,7,8 December)

Professor Mayo saw to the organisation of these events as part of the UNESCO Chair in Global Adult Education. They mark the first two global events in connection with this Chair.

Similar fests and commemorations will be provided in the forthcoming years. 2022 marks the birth centenary of former Tanzanian President, Julius Nyerere whose contribution to African thinking on Education (including Adult Education) and Development has been significant. We recently mourned the passing of bell hooks who had a great influence on critical pedagogy. Both will be celebrated through similar events this year. Next year is the birth centenary year of Don Lorenzo Milani who we hope to celebrate in a similar manner, attracting practitioners and scholars from different parts of the world. February-March is the target period for the revival of the adult education flagship journal, Convergence

It will be produced by the Faculty of Education under the auspices of the UNESCO Chair in Global Adult Education.
