I love this type of video. And I'm also obsessed with minimalism right now.

Oh yeah I do this as well, from recycling to turning my water flow really low when soaping up during shower, and etc. Good advice! 👍

I never really paid attention to my use of plastic but I now I do because a lot of it ends up in our waterways and the ladies like that I'm environmentally friendly!

Finally, I get to claim to be FIRST!!!! But great video Mari! After living in NZ, the ability to recycle here in Vietnam kills me since many people just throw trash on the street and have extra packaging for everything. But trying to do my part.

Thank you for making people aware of ECO-FRIENDLY traveling. Most of your videos are fun to watch. But I personally visit your channel just to see your smile :-D Your smile says so much without even speaking anything.

I have swam with turtles and when I saw that I almost cried. They are such lovely animals. The animal kingdom needs help. We were once part of it let's not forget. The planet is suffering because of our mistakes and lazy ways

Those are some great tips! If you don't mind me adding a few I try use.
Waste minimisation: In countries where I can't drink the water safely, I buy the biggest container I can and then decant that into my regular water bottle as needed. It's often cheaper too and people have more reuse options for the big containers.
Take shorter showers
Carry a bag (even a foldup bag) always and refuse plastic bags you don't need. Use pockets or your scarf if necessary.
Eat local food is a good tip, not only eco-friendly but also a good way to experience the culture.
Order the same meal for everybody at the table; the restaurant can save a lot of energy by cooking in bulk. (This takes some coordination)
If you're ordering deep-fried or fresh backed foods then try to order then close to regular meal times and order everything at once. The oil/oven will have residual heat from order to order. It's a waste to heat up an oven/grill or oil for a single order outside of peak times.
Don't waste food! I know that can be hard to judge on the road sometimes, but better you go a bit light on the next meal so that you leave too much behind.
Most ready to eat snacks are a minefield of packaging. Eat more at meals, or buy larger bulk goods and make up snacks for the day in reusable containers.

Hi, thank you for the tips, also we all should be mindful of the people who actually live in the places we visit. I have seen many travelers who take haggling a bit too far and end up exploiting the sellers. It is strange because they would not think twice of paying a fixed price for an item in the US or Europe but a similar item in a developing country in the market they feel they can get it for peanuts. I also like to tip the cleaners at the hostels etc. spread the wealth people!

Notification Squad
Even though I have a stainless steel straw, I reuse plastic straws that are wider, easier to drink water when I take my vitamins and supplements. My fish oil pill is the size of a horse pill! Lol
BTW I also use reusable bags for groceries.

Funny thing about plastics... I use very little in my personal life. However, in organ, tissue and eye donation, just our company uses over 250 pounds of single use plastic every day. I guess recycling bodies has its price. The healthcare field in generel probably produces over 10, 000 tons of plastic waste per day in the US. Another funny thing is I have been in SoCal for over a year now, and you'd think a progressive state like California would be litter free. Yet, it has more litter than any other place I have been, except maybe Mexico. It's just filthy here. Can't wait to leave. Lol

Your hair has grown so much Marie! 🙇‍♀️🙇‍♀️ This is awesome, I am becoming more aware of this now. I like that Countdown is taking this on board & if you buy one of their bags & it tears they'll replace it for FREE.
