You stated that the individual dimensions of the bag shall not be more than 22”x14”x9”. The linear dimensions shall not be more than 40”. Yet the sum L+B+H=22+9+14=45. 45” exceeds the allowed linear dimensions of 40”. So if your bags do exceed the individual dimensions of 22x13x9 but are below the linear dimensions of 45 then it is acceptable.

Delta's carry on policy and actual procedures are completely different. Delta favors Mileage Plus members. They have a habit of allowing Plus members to carry excess amounts of baggage on board. When General Boarding is called, they automatically tell you that there is zero room left in the overhead compartments. Thus your bag must be checked. Once you arrive at your seat, the overhead compartment above you is completely empty. This is rampant with Delta. The gate agents have chosen a path of laziness. They never check with the flight attendants to verify storage space on board. They just lie. Then throw your bag in the belly of the aircraft. Be prepared for this. Keep your electronics, jewelry, medications in your backpack or purse.

I am a passenger assistant at Reno Tahoe International Airport. I have pushed passengers that violate the rule of having one carryon item besides the cabin baggage allowance. They carry with them multiple carryon items that they failed to consolidate in a bag so that they can avoid paying a fee for violating the cabin baggage allowance.

And that’s a bold face lie. They allow backpacks that don’t fit under the seat. So really you have two carry ons plus your purse your coat so multiple that by a full load. You run out of overhead space
