What a joke! None of this is for the benefit of the patient, it is all about protecting the license of the doctor and protecting hospitals from litigation. But, if you choose to pretend that is not the case, feel free! Having an unwelcome person in an examinination room can be more than intrusive and distressing for the patient. After one such experience I refused to go for any kind of survelience unless the use of a chaparone is done over the intercom, which of course is rarely offered! And, I will not sign any authorizations until I am certain that has been dealt with ahead of time and every one is 'on the same page.' If not, I am leaving!
