How To Build A Fireplace

Let me show you how we took a drawing on a napkin and turned it into a fireplace like this.
First, my wife works out the dimensions on paper- this way I have a detailed drawing with all the measurements before I start building.
Here you can see it all framed up with the firebox installed.
Next, we drywalled the top half.
The design included open cabinets on both the left and the right side.
Our cabinet shop built these and the mantle; then we installed them ourselves.
The shelves are adjustable and great for storage.
This is also where we located the switches to turn on the heatilator and the fireplace.
We used the shelves on the other side to house our audio components.
When you’re installing a fireplace it’s super important that you go by the manufacturer’s specs for the mantle.
This 6” mantle needed to be a minimum of 11” above the firebox.
The mantle is not solid, but it’s cool how they matched the grain around the end.
Only noncombustible materials can be used around the firebox, so we used tile.
Finally, we painted the drywall above to match the cabinets below. @hausplans

You can only use non combustible material around the fire box so you used tile. But the structure is made of wood???

Has anyone else noticed this guy intentionally makes mistakes in his videos? Ie "this is where we lacated the switch". I guess the strategy works because here I am commenting. 🤷‍♂️
