Something I wrote to explore what the trumpet can do with microtones. Thanks to @KGUmusic for sending me the trumpet kit!

Hey guys! For those who didn’t know, xenharmonic means something that isn’t using 12-tone equal temperament that we’re used to hearing in western music. I don’t know if I’m using a specific scale (if anyone knows I’d love to know!) but I’m just using a lot of alternate valvings for certain notes to make them a quarter flat/natural giving it that non-western feel. I know there’s such thing as an attachment you can put on the trumpet, which when engaged, can quarter tone any note. (Similar to Ibrahim Maalouf’s trumpet) Would be cool to use but no idea where to find one. Hope you like it and let me know if you’d like to hear more of this kinda thing! 🎺

I do this but on accident, my band director says I'm out of tune but I'll show him this!

My high school trumpet teacher could play the C major scale using no valves. It wasn't perfect pitch, but you could tell it was a scale. This really reminded me of that. That was really eerie, but very interesting!!

Great demonstration of micro-tonal possibilities of a standard western trumpet in a very musically-satisfying featuring fine playing!

Oli, you've truly blown me away with this music. You NEED to do more demonstrations of this. This is so cool, I have never seen trumpets do this

Never would have thought of making a piece of music out of these. I love them throw in to make a point in a piece, but what you did worked well

Very interesting! And very talented! If you take requests I would LOVE to hear a solo for “Semi-Charmed Life” by Third Eye Blind

Hey Oli Parker, if you see this I have a request for you. Do you think you could do a solo for Simon Says by Pharoe Monch? I really like it and I think it would be really cool to see what you do with it! Thanks for reading if you do!

Awesome video man, very educational. Never went to far down this theory rabbit hole, but I hope to sometime - have you heard of Iannis Xenakis? I'm sure you have just by making this video - If not look him up.
