I hired gamer turned semi-professional drifter, @rhysconklin55 , to teach me how to drift on my simulator! Rhys was only 15 at the time of recording this, and his talent is undeniable. This is episode 1 of my IRL Japan Drifting Series. I've been challenged by the legendary drifting champion, Daigo Sato, to a tandem at his home track, so I'll be spending the next few weeks preparing in the mountains of Fukushima, Japan. Subscribe to see episode 2 where I purchase and unveil my first drift car!

I used to do a lot of sim drifting and recently moved more into grip racing. You have so many options to initiate the drift. Scandi flick, handbrake, clutch, if you have the correct brake balance for it you can use the foot brake, you can downshift although this method is rarely recommended. But honestly it’s a lot of fun, takes a lot of practice and a very well setup car

You can do a Scandinavian flick to initiate too

This video literally cleared one of my doubts about the clutch kicking and hand break ngl.

I didn’t knew the difference of the use so i would always suck trying to drift in Forza horizon.

There are more ways to initiate a drift other than those 2 ways but i guess those 2 are the most used especially a handbrake entry.

You’re wrong man, there are several techniques for drifting. I’m in the opposite case, I’ve been drifting several years and now I’m moving into the grip world. 😅

Its all feels man also depends on the type of drifting your doing but id say the 2 primary initiations are handbrake and Scandinavian flick. A lot of drfters on console use a Manual w/out clutch

It’s about riding the curves of the track

I think they are way more ways to initiate a drift.
I almost always do breaking drifts.
That's when you break, which moves the weight to the front but you also accelerate at the same time. Because when you break, the pressure is higher on the front wheels, they slow down more than the rear wheels, especially when you're accelerating.
That makes the back of your car drive faster than the front, and that's how I initiate drifts. And I do some weight transfer from side to side but I don't know how to explain that yet.

I started doing this naturally in some corners on mountain passes.
Then I saw videos about it which made me understand what I was doing.

Before that I had tried clutch kicking because it's believed to be one of the easiest techniques, but... I never managed to drift with it.
It just, never felt intuitive to me. (unlike my technique)

inertial drift entry, 24/7! just turn the wheel and follow the racing line :-)

Learning the drift line was so weird for me, I kept wanting to take the turns shallow like a racing line

I guess that most of us started with Drift Bible and trying 7 driving technics explained there.

I wish I'd have seen this before doing every drift mission in gt7

I usually do clutch kicks instead of handbrakes because I usually drift slowly like if I was using a Nissan skyline

Somewhat funny, that I learnt drifting only in NFS most wanted (in my childhood) and wanna seriously try it on practice track.

This is what made me quit trying to learn how to drift + i don't have any decent game to do it. 🙏

Dragging your brakes a hair will also slow wheel rotation and help stop over rotating the car if you put too much sauce on it.

Drifting is 10X more dangerous than racing cause you have to look at and listen and smell your passenger shiting themselves when you go 60 into a sharp corner. The reason it's dangerous is because I'm laughing to hard and have to stop because I have tears in my eyes 😂😂😂🤣🤣

Handbrake is to extend your drift as well
