Watching this movie knowing that no CGI was used makes your jaw drop. Around 1, 000 extras, 750 horses, and 159 camels were used. King Hussein of Jordan even provided his Arab Legion soldiers to work as extras too. This is a beautiful epic and I hope you enjoyed it Cassie.

One of the greatest films ever made. A complex character study against an epic backdrop. Mostly true, and a history lesson for issues we're still dealing with today.

That scene in the first act where Sharif Ali arrives at the well is one of the greatest intros in movie history.

Omar Sharif was so damn good in this. I don’t think anyone watching this the first time anticipates him becoming the movie’s moral center.

T.E. Lawrence, wasn't a character, he was a real person. Extraordinary, he actually retired from the army after the war and joined the airforce as a new recruit. He was a man of passion, a man of pride and a legend to anyone who has heard of his exploits. He was also idolized by the Arabian people, where even Sultan's would bow to him.

Also, that mirage shot of Omar Sharif coming out of the desert is arguably the most mind-blowing shot in the history of cinema.

Cassie, you need to watch the beginning again after finishing the movie because that is the true ending of his story. Once you do that you will know all the faces at his funeral and the irony of the guy who slapped him in Damascus not knowing who he was but then talking glowingly about him at his funeral as if he knew him personally, it’s a brilliant piece of out of sequence story telling.

"You know this kind of reminds me of... Dune" - Lawrence of Arabia came out in 1962, the first Dune was written in 1963. Not a coincidence, Herbert himself said Dune is Lawrence of Arabia in Space

Cassie's confusion over some of Lawrence's character choices is exactly what the movie meant to do. It's fundamentally a story of a man being torn down by his own idealism.

Fun fact, the previous king of Jordan met a secretary working on the film set for this movie, married her, and she is the mother of the current king of Jordan.

"I am Auda Auba Tayi, I carry twenty-three great wounds, all got in battle. Seventy-five men have I killed with my own hands in battle. I scatter, I burn my enemies' tents. I take away their flocks & herds. The Turks pay me a golden treasure, yet I am poor! Because I am a river to my people!"

Lawrence had several years experience before the war as an archaeologist in what is now Syria and spoke Arabic fluently. Almost all of the incidents in the movie are based in actual history. My only complaint is that they played down his knowledge of the Sykes-Picot treaty. After the war at the Versailles conference and in the Cairo conference, Lawrence was a supporter of the idea of an Arab independent state, and felt that he failed his friend prince Faisal when he was not able to stop the British and French politics, which divided up the area.
A bit of trivia, Peter O’Toole on the set of the movie was taught to ride a camel by the grandson of Auda abu Tayi . A large portion of the movie was filmed in Jordan and the director had a solid support of the King of Jordan. Many of the extras were members of the Royal Jordanian Camel Corps.

This movie is a perfect example of why film>cgi, and always will be. The eye can tell the difference. This film is older than my parents, yet it is far more beautiful than anything made today.

Hi, Cassie, 2 fun facts about this movie, 1. The palace where Lawrence meets with his superiors is the Plaza De Espana in Seville Spain. This was also used as the palace on Naboo in the Star Wars prequels. 2. Prince Faisal is played by none other then old Obi Wan Kenobi himself, Sir Alec Guiness.

Lawrence was a fascinating man with a story that historians debate over. I think he will always be a bit of an enigma. Thank you Cassie for reacting to this film, it's one of my favorites

There's a story about O'Toole and Sharif getting sloshed before shooting the scene where they raid Aqaba. They had to mount camels and lead 400 extras in a furious mile-and-a-half charge.
Terrified that he’d fall off, Sharif was thinking of tying himself to the camel.
“What are you going to do?” he asked O’Toole.
“Well, I’m going to get drunk, ” O’Toole responded.
“Well, I am, too, ” Sharif said, and the two knocked back several glasses of brandy and milk.
When the movie came out, Time magazine described O’Toole’s performance in that scene as “messianic fury.”
"Messianic fury, my foot, " O'Toole would proclaim decades later. "Pickled on brandy."

One of the greatest films ever made. This begs to be watched on the biggest screen possible and I was lucky enough to see it on an IMAX screen a couple years ago. Simply breathtaking filmmaking. No wonder Spielberg rewatches it before he goes to shoot a new movie.

Cassie, you’ve really come so far in your movie journey. Some people go their whole lives without seeing this picture, and you dove in headfirst. It’s been such a pleasure watching you evolve into a real film buff. This is one of the very best films ever made. Every frame a painting as they say.

It’s widely regarded as one of the best films ever made because it is. There’s not many films that are almost 4 hours long that can hold your attention for that length of time.

Cassie, you have so expanded your universe since you started this reaction journey. You used to just watch the fluffy silly romances with happy endings. Now you watch one of the absolute classics. I honor and respect your growth
