I absolutely love this guy. No fluff. No bullshit. Methodical. Thorough. And upfront opinions with explanations.

The 5800x3D has been a great drop in upgrade for me since I’m already in the am4 platform and have no desire to deal with DDR5. No more cpu bottlenecks for me.

I know this is a lot of work but hopefully, you can do an 1800x, 2700x, 3700x/3800x, 5800x and 5800x3D comparisons too see the difference on performance from all zen generations. Great work Steve!

The 5800x3d is good for a last breath of an existing am4 build if you are in the 1rst, second or third gen (8core or less)

5800X3D looking like a good drop-in upgrade option from a 3700X. I suspect the extra cache will be very useful for Wine, Proton, and general virtualization shenanigans, and remain useful even when retired to home server duty. Thanks for the detailed review!

finally someone doing a comparison that actually makes sense. you could drop down to a 12700f and a b660 board to save another 100$, glad someone mentioned this cpu for a change

brutal performance. i'm looking forward to what they're gonna do with this cache setup on AM5. probably won't get one for my systems, the 3700x is still plenty fast enough for my use.

You really helped my purchase decision. Great job as always!

I look forward to the X3D coming back in stock. It's going to be one heck of a drop-in upgrade for my 2600X that should allow me to squeeze another 5 years or so out of this thing.

The big value win for the 5800X3D is that I (and a lot of other people out there) already have an X370, X470, or even a B450 board that's compatible, bringing the CPU upgrade down to the same price as a motherboard and CPU from Intel for worse performance.

Excellent comparison, and I think the best option for gamers is to wait for AM5 / whatever Intel's next platform is if they can. Otherwise, I'd get a second hand AM4 system with something like a 2600.

5800X3D is in stock all around in EU at EUR 500. That may seem equivalent to USD 550 but usually EUR price = USD Price (VAT added to EU prices)

This cpu is awesome for those who have a am4 setup. I have the 5800x so its kind of pointless to change but if you are on the 3000 series and older, this is such an awesome upgrade.

I would love to see this comparison with older chipset series and how this affect in the price/performance of a whole gaming build

I freaking love that Intel and AMD are so close in performance again. This is good news for next generation where both will no doubt do their absolutely best to please us <3

Got the 12700K from Micro Center for $300 - at that price it's the deal of the century!

Always good to get a bit of confirmation with purchases. I just received my 12700F B660 DDR4 parts. Makes me feel more confident to hear Steve speak quite highly of it, to stave of the endless 'Should I have waited for next gen' thoughts. 8400 couldn't hold out much longer

I went with a 12700F with the MSI b660m-a you guys recommended and it’s absolutely lovely. It’s killing everything I throw at it and I’m even running it on the default 65W setting in the bios for the time being to keep it cool in the summer months. Thanks for these types of videos! Really helped me get the best value for my money. The 12700F was literally €75 cheaper than the 12700K in the Netherlands when I was buying. Even more if you factor in the more expensive motherboard.

Totally happy with the 12700K especially as I play at ultra wide 3440x1440p and then on productivity the 12700K just does such a great job. Saying that the 5800XD is a great upgrade which can be a significant cost saving on motherboard and ram so very nice drop in for the last hurrah on AM4...

I recently got a 12700k at Best Buy for $325 and I couldn’t be happier

A year later, the i7-12700kf is cheaper than the 5800x where I live.
