For anyone wondering, if you get caught, you still have to serve the remaining sentence, you just won't get extra punishment for escaping

It's similar to drug use laws. Taking drugs is not punished but every single thing that has to do with drugs is, to make it impossible to get.

You don’t just get to leave though, you still go back to jail, there just isn’t an additional punishment added to your sentence.

Literally it just means they won't add time if you get caught. You still go right back to prison

In Germany you can get something called "Freigang" where you are allowed to leave the prison for some time. But you need to come back in time. When you do so you will get more of it when you dont come back and get caught you have to wait a long time to get that right again...

On that last bit: Technically, if the cop catches up, you can't fight him. Because resisting law enforcement would be another crime you can be charged for.

The same thing with cannibalism! There isn't a law that prohibits it, but to do it you'll break a lot of other laws, that's what make it illegal!

Just because its technically legal doesn't mean your sentence is automatically voided. The only perk is that you won't have your sentence increased if you manage not to break any laws

You can escape legally, but they will catch you and put you back in prison, there simply won't be additional charges

If you escape and do no harm or stuff like that during escaping you get no extra time my friend in germany told ne its because its considered natural for people to try to escape from places they dont want to be

I think some people dont realise that you are technically allowed to flee but you will still be arrested as soon as possible and that trying to resist that would be illegal. So you only really gain anything from this if you plan to be never found again and at that point it wouldnt matter if breaking out would be a crime itself

It makes sense, you will still be rearrested to finish your sentence. Plus you probably wont try and escape unless you have life anyways.

You won't have your sentence extended for escaping, but you will be charged for any crimes committed on the way out

Yeah, so basically no extra time is added to your sentence if you break out unless you break other laws. For example, if you break out while wearing prison clothes it's considered theft of the prison uniform.

It's legal as long as you do not hurt anyone or destroy something it just means that you won't get punished for breaking out but obviously still for what you did before. Also it's hard to Espace without destroying anything or hurting someone
