Learning to Listen: Karyn Gagnon at TEDxWinnipeg
We live in a world submerged in noise and chaos. Among this mixture of noise, we subconsciously decide what we will truly listen to. While making these choices, the people around us yearn for someone to listen to them. We need to create environments where listening can occur, removing obstacles and becoming aware of the valuable opportunities that we have to connect. Listening is the foundation of meaningful relationships which are the key to growth and understanding, both individually and as a community, ultimately fostering peace and learning.
Karyn Gagnon is a middle years teacher, who has a long-standing philosophy that joy can be found in any situation and that laughter should always be heard. Karyn graduated from the University of Winnipeg in 2009 with her Bachelor of Education. She is currently working towards her Post Baccalaureate in the Education for Sustainability stream through the University of Winnipeg. Karyn has taught in Thompson, Winnipeg and Thailand, which has broadened her ideologies about education and its connection to social justice. Karyn has traveled to more than 35 countries, which has opened her eyes to the uniting force of storytelling and allowed her to learn to appreciate the cultures of others.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
