Helped me a lot with this video. Just got out of high school been MIG welding for almost 2 years now. I’m uncertified tho and really wanna get my certs in MIG and stick which I can also do pretty well. I chose not to go to school for welding since well I’m already employ. And It’s so complicated reading online about how to do it 😂. You simplified it perfectly thank ya

I didn't finish my welding classes when I was in school. In my area there are more welders than there are jobs. A lot of companies in my area hire welders from outside in. They tend to hire certified welders from outside before they promote within. To combat that I will go get a certification based on company needs on my own. That way I have some kind of leverage.

I'm from New Zealand and now in Australia...Very much the same in regards to the Company weld certs in both NZ and Australia.
But, any other certs you may have paid for are not recognized by the company/client. I paid over $15, 000/14, 000 USD for a 6-month course 20 years ago and when I left the course I had to immediately resit the qualification for the company I worked for.
Not a big deal. I think welding is one of the only trades that disregard any previous experience. But when you have the experience...a weld test is, just another weld.

I’m 53 years old. I’m in reasonably good shape. I have a masters degree in education. I’m an education administrator. I fckin hate my job with a passion. I have been learning how to weld for about a year in my garage. I love it! I realize that a self taught welder isn’t going to be in much demand but am I too old to work on some certifications and get out there and weld for a living? Any advice would be appreciated.

my local welding class only offered Oklahoma state steamcard. but what kind of certifications would I need for something more construction based/ or general repair on machinery and vehicles? they didn't really touch on that subject. it was more "weld in this position with these settings. bring it to me when you're done." and if they liked how it looked "okay, now cut another plate. weld in this position with this rod on these settings. come back when you're done."

Great video... but quick question... Can I get certified for a particular type of welding in order to run my own fabrication business and maintain the certification that way? Or do I need someone to sign off on my logs regularly?

I think it's only A&P aviation mechs that get an 'everything' license nowadays.

Is a high school diploma needed for refinery welding? Or for a travel welding job

My cwi failed me because I changed the voltage by 2% for the cap only from 23.5 v to 23.2v on a fcaw 3g test ... i passed the bend test with no inclusions no lack of fusion everything tested perfect but bc I didn't follow the parameters how HE wrote the wps ....is this fair or bullshit?

Would my training as a welder in Germany with a certificate be enough for this or would that not work for you?
