Storybook Magic in Tallinn, Estonia

Tallinn is the capital city of Estonia and its medieval Old Town feels like a storybook fairytale. In this video, we explore Tallinn and discover all the charm of this hidden gem. We start at the Viru Gate, two stone towers that date back to the 14th century. There used to be a drawbridge here and it's still one of the main streets of Tallinn. We walk up to Katariina Käik, a passageway that's tucked away and easy to miss if you're not looking for it. It has a long history and is now home to different artists and makers. The main gathering space in the Old Town is, of course, the town square. This is where you find Town Hall Pharmacy, which is the oldest pharmacy in Europe that has continuously operated on the same premises. This pharmacy has been operating here since 1422! In addition to filling prescriptions daily, there's also a small museum you can check out. For lunch we get cheap and cheerful pancakes at a restaurant called Kompressor. They have sweet and savoury pancakes that are huge and only cost about 5 euros each. Make sure you also try kali, a traditional Estonian drink made of fermented bread. We love it! Full of pancakes, we take a flight of stairs up to the Danish King's Garden where you can get a great view of Tallinn. It gets chilly so we head back to our Airbnb to warm up, which is located smack dab in the middle of the Old Town.

If you love old pharmacies/apothecaries, there is one in Chicago called Merz Apothecary, its not as old as this, but over 100 years old...probably my favorite store in Chicago. Perfumes/colognes from all over the world and other international items. Might be right up your alley? Really enjoying your videos💖 Thank you

Tallinn Estonia looks so magical! I love countries that aren't 100% on the radar for most tourists and this place makes the list. I have been wanting to travel to Estonia for the last couple of years and your vlog is moving the destination higher up on the list!

I love your enthusiasm and love for life and each other! You are both fun to watch, especially being Canadians :) I love that you gave fun facts, and at the bottom, the gear you used and the airbnb.

Just recently discovered your channel! I live in Tallinn and watching your videos makes me want to hop on a bus and go to old town to look at it differently. I work in one of old towns restaurants, so I go there almost every day but do not notice a lot of things. It is definetly beautiful but I can not look at it as a tourist. so it is so cool to see your reactions. 😊🧡

That's a big, fat "yes" to savoury pancakes with pickles, salami and cheese, but I'd like it with plain sour cream. Were those pickled beets on the side? Yum!
Tallinn looks so much like a story book fairy tale city, it's hard to believe it really exists! I'd LOVE to visit!!! Reminds me of Brugges, Belgium in how "untouched" it looks. The oldest pharmacy is super cool, but so sad that they dispense nothing but modern pharmacy items that can be acquired everywhere else in the world. I'd love to know what they mixed up and dispensed for the other 500 years!
Your airbnb was so amazing, cool, and modern, and not at all what I expected to see considering that it was located right in the heart of that charming town.

Really enjoyed this one, such a pretty city with all the colours. Definitely want to visit there soon. Glad you got to visit the Pharmacy in the end, the look of disappointment when it was closed, haha. The pancakes looked good, probably wouldn’t eat them with just pickles, but with salami sounds very tasty.

Oh my gosh you guys are hilarious! You are both so natural at this, very engaging, great chemistry and you are very much "in the moment". Didn't know that Estonian was similar to finish, but I guess that does make sense. Keep up the great work : )

Love the old-world feel of the Tallinn buildings & architecture everywhere. Really liked the design of the doors of that 'oldest pharmacy" in Europe. Marc's reaction to finishing off that pancaked pickle last piece was pretty good, though the fermented bread beer sounded a little odd, as long as it was tasted good though. Sounds like it was a fun day for you & Marc.

Oh my gosh, salamis pickles and cheese pancakes??? YUMMY YES. Crazy how much Tallinn looks like the old town center of Copenhagen. The color palettes of the buildings are perfect. Did you catch the pig shaped window planter? Really love your drone shots.
Wonderful share guys😁

Wow like a Disney set. Was interested in the oldest pharmacy dating from 1422. The oldest in England is in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire (I lived about 40 minutes away in Otley) it only dates from 1734

Hi! Awesome video! But yeah the sad thing about Estonia's past is that its people have been slaves for a bigger part of 700 years by all sorts of different European countries, so as a result majority of past traditions and religions that its people had were erased in the process. Before that era all is only known that Estonian's used to worship spirits of nature. So when we are taught history about the past 700 years, its mostly about how different countries and duchies occupied this country and what they did during their rule. Fun fact though: Estonia is home to one of the oldest known prehistoric communities in Europe, in a small town called Kunda. Estonian history goes back thousands of years, its a bit sad that a vast majority was lost over petty wars of religion and power.
