This is why you shouldn’t use coconut oil on your natural hair

Coconut oil doesn’t ACTUALLY moisturize your hair, it really “clogs” the hair cuticle. It prevents moisture from getting in while making your hair feel like straw. Similar to blue magic aka grease

Please don’t come on here with “it’s a cultural thing you wouldn’t understand” argument 🙄

I’ve been here since the beginning of the natural hair movement and I know how this started. People started using coconut oil out of desperation because we were looking for a way to moisturize our hair

I am behind the chair and I experience various hair textures and coconut oil has been detrimental to them all! After I clarified her hair and started styling it, she said she felt an IMMEDIATE difference.
Oily hair does not equal moisturized hair

We actually moisturized her hair and the end result was soft touchable curls

Ok, I thought it was just me. Coconut oil has never worked for me. It just sits on top of my hair like "Hey girl"

Man, curly hair is so pretty! Watching the process of defining curls and seeing how curly hair can do so many things is so cool!

Very good trimming technique. It wasn't excessive. You managed to retain her length. The style is cute and au natural.

Coconut oil is my go to hair magic. Here in Hawai’i we use it for everything. Skin. Teeth. Hair. It’s a sealant. Apply it onto WET hair to lock in moisture. And it depends on hair type. My absolute can’t live without Beauty bestie.

Coconut oil is my hair's favorite oil. It's not the moisturizer, it's the sealant. If you're using it as a solo moisturizer, that's why it doesn't work for you.

Honestly everyone's hair is so different! Coconut oil makes my hair so shiny and helps it grow! That's what it does for me but that doesn't mean it's going to do that for everyone else. To each his own so they say. But yes I absolutely love her curls!

Well as an Indian with long lushes hair I can 100 percent confirm coconut oil is the best remedy for dry frizzy hair and we Indians have been using coconut since thousands of years and we are know for our long healthy hair so I don’t know if it’s just a African hair thing but girl you are wrong when you say coconut oil don’t work … IT ABSOLUTELY WORKS.

I'm from the Caribbean, and coconut oil is what we use growing up. The problem is so many companies are making it and adding stuff to it. For us in the Caribbean, our mothers and grandmothers made it from scratch, which is a process it goes through. It cleans your scalp it was also used on a baby's scalp if their scalp become dry.

Coconut oil works on my hair vs. not on my sister's hair. Which is great for woman who can't afford to really have there hair done. I love what you do and have done here.

I love it🥰 ❤ coconut was never the right oil for my hair… it always made it crunchy so I have stopped using it a long time ago. It just doesn’t work for me.

Use whatever works for your hair. Some say coconut oil is awesome for them and some say it isn't

This does NOT apply to those of us with high porosity hair. Coconut oil helps to seal moisture in. If you have low porosity hair then it will sit on top of your hair and build up. Know your hair porosity. Everything isn’t for everybody.

I am a white guy from Montana and really don't know a lot about black peoples hair, but the finished product looks beautiful. Thank you for teaching me.

🔥🔥🔥 wish i had hair. This is so beautiful. But I’m a surviving cancer patient and i lost all my hair and now looks like i have burnt scalp scars in the top and it won’t grow. But i really like what you did to her hair and i best she does too👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Well, I think the main point here is what your hair loves and doesn't love. My sister's hair thrives on Coconut oil while mine sheds alot when I use it. I now 100% agree with what one YouTuber said; THE NATURAL HAIR COMMUNITY HAS BECOME TOXIC! Don't use this, don't do that, oils are bad for your hair, etc 🤦🏽‍♀️. Ladies, just use whatever works for you...better still use whatever your mom and granny used! These natural hair stylists ain't God!

I'm afro caribbean from Bonaire and my great grandmother at 92 had waist long hair and always used coconut oil and braided her hair. We all have used it, we never had any issues.
