The Canon R5 has only been out for a few weeks but I wanted to take it out and shoot a wedding with it. I was testing it to see how well this camera could take the heat of a real-world review.

I know it's not the time for this. But he had my man looking out through a window he can't see out of. What he looking at? lol

You know is 2020 when the benchmark of a $4000 camera is "the camera didn't shut down"

This is why i like the Canon EOS 90D so Much, I know people hate on the crop sensor but the EOS 90D is Phenomenal and it only has the option of shooting in IPB Mode, having the option to shoot 120FPS or 60FPS in 1080p is wonderful, i can just scale up to 4k, but the 90D i think is better than the Original EOS RP and almost as good as the original R if it had only been made a MIRRORless Crop sensor that took RF lenses it would be insane.

As long as you aren't using it as an A-Cam and shooting lower compression. Of course, you can use it on weddings. It's just an expensive camera for that. I still think this overheating problem is more artificial firmware limitation.

Thank you for sharing and your honest thoughts. I’ve been using my R5 for stills and loving it. Happy to see the R5 is working out for your professional needs as well!

Hi, great video!
I'm also a professional photographer and I shot a wedding last weekend with my R5, video only. I had the camera for about 2 weeks prior the wedding and I tested and tried out the camera a lot, to really get to know the camera with all it's possibilities and limitations.
I shot the whole wedding in 1080 25p ( I'm in Sweden) ALL-I, in a tweaked Neutral color profile so that I'd have the material in H.264. I also had an external monitor ( Small HD Focus) to use the waveforms for my exposure.
I shot some selected shots in (mostly B-roll) 1080 50p, 4K 25p (normal and HQ) 60p and also a few 4K 120 .
The video will be delivered in 1080.
The camera did great, it never overheats in 1080 or normal 4K 25. After roughly 6 hours of shooting I did some burst of 4K 120 slowmotion and it did overheat, which I had calculated for that it would do, these were bonus shots in slowmotion, so i just flipped back to 1080 again, or normal 4K.
So my point being, this camera is amazing when used to it's capabilities and possibilities, I mean we get awesome image quality in 1080 and 4k in no crop fullframe, in 10-bit 422 LOG if you want - internally.
Of course I hope that a firmware update will enable the 4K HQ in either limitless or at least more of it before it overheats, but I will get a Ninja V anyways, like to be honest many professionals do, so then that problem will be gone.
Thanks for taking your time reading this, hope you got some good info. 👊😂

Did you get a chance to try to shoot the R5 with a ninja without the memory card inside the camera? I hear that eliminates the overheating and you can shoot for hours in 4k HQ

Brandon. Love your work. Canon did themselves a disservice with the way the marketed this camera. If the had just come out and marketed this as a higher resolution EOS R and price it at $3000 it would have been a home run! But when you market it as an 8K beast of a video camera, charge $4000 for it and then tell people they have to jump through all types of hoops to used the OVERLY MARKETED features then the reaction is warranted. Anyway, I'm really happy youre back making videos bro.

Dude! Nothing better than doing it for yourself and seeing what you can come up with rather than just being a talking head. A positive attitude, some skill and experience, is a winning combination. Well done!

Fellow Houston photographer, I've used it on 2 weddings so far, photos only but the only issue I've noticed is when an using older LP-E6, I had a one ERR 70, I took the battery and turned it off, put it back in and the Err 70 went away. I've also only had the circular polarizer EF to RF mount adapter. All of my EF lenses has worked better than when I had I on my 1DXMark 2, I have the Sigma ARts 24, 35, 50, 85, 105, 135, Tamron 24-70 G2, Tamron 15-30.

You mean to tell me you took the recording and heating limitations information and found solutions to such limitations, like some dirty PROFESSIONAL! TOTAL AND UTTER DISHONOR!

Glad to hear your thoughts.

Hi Brandon. Nice video. As for photo and video, do you think the Canon Eos R5 is a big leap from the Canon Eos R, and the Sony A7iii. Thanks in advance.

Thank-you! But I wish you had waited a couple more weeks. I’m still on the list to get my pre-ordered R5 and the more “bad” reviews there are, the more cancelled orders, and the faster I’ll get mine 💁‍♀️.
This was a welcome and surprisingly rare look at someone actually using it to actually do something. If I did not also own a cinema camera, I would not be getting an R5. But it has everything I care about most, and I don’t *need* it for extended shots at 8k or 120 FPS that would burn through my storage devices anyway...

Solid! Same here, just filmed two weddings this past month and I had no issues or struggles. Settings were about the same as yours.

Killer post dawg ... very informative. Another cosigner for my plan to buy an R5; you confirmed my thoughts on workflow and added to them with camera settings. A smart man with a plan, can get the job done. Big Props!

Great review! One question: Were you shooting 4KHQ at 60, or the regular 4K? And did you shoot anything at 4K-120, or was that too much pressure to put on the system in terms of heat? Thanks again!
