AirPods Live Listen: Hearing Aid or Spy Tool?

Apple in iOS 12 introduced a new Live Listen feature that's designed to turn the iPhone into a remote microphone for the AirPods. Live Listen has been around for years for MFi-compatible hearing aids, but it's only with the addition of AirPods support that it became available for general iOS users. Live listen and AirPods have changed my dad's life. It is so awesome to have a conversation at dinner with him now. I usually put my AirPods in his ears when we're out or even at home. Recently, I got an old phone and another pair for his place (they don't stay charged long) for his caregiver and she says it's night and day. I don't know what was wrong with his hearing aids but he says they never worked the way the AirPods do and he's happy to wear the AirPods.

Despite the title, you did not delve into how Live Listen could be used as a tool for spying... you just cited a reddit post that isn't even linked in the description. I'm an enormous fan of MacRumors, but I'm very disappointed in the clickbaityness of this video.

If you your expensive iPhone is placed close to a lecturer some 40 ft away, make sure you retrieve your phone or it might get stolen.

If the airpods are in the case, can it still listen to conversations? What if the phone connected to the airpods is far away (like in a different room or even inside the house) could it still listen?

I have iPhone XR and it won’t let me turn it on when I click on live listen in my control center 😢

I plan to use live listen when watching movies through the PlayStation 4. I’m a hearing aid user but both of my hearing aids broke and I have to wait 4.5 days before I go get my new ones. Last time I tried to use liven listen it sounded very echoey.

Have new hearing aid(s) but not thrilled with sound quality. I really love my AirPods and the quality of sound is much better. Hopefully this will be an alternative!
