Who is Ron Spomer
For 44 years I’ve had the good fortune to photograph and write about my passion – the outdoor life. Wild creatures and wild places have always stirred me – from the first flushing pheasant that frightened me out of my socks in grandpa’s cornfield to the last whitetail that dismissed me with a wag of its tail. In my attempts to connect with this natural wonder, to become an integral part of our ecosystem and capture a bit of its mystery, I’ve photographed, hiked, hunted, birded, and fished across much of this planet. I've seen the beauty that everyone should see, survived adventures that everyone should experience. I may not have climbed the highest mountains, canoed the wildest rivers, caught the largest fish or shot the biggest bucks, but I’ve tried. Perhaps you have, too. And that’s the essential thing. Being out there, an active participant in our outdoor world.

My father bought a model 700 BDL in .30-06 while he was in the Air Force in Japan in the 60's. He named it. "Death & Destruction". That rifle has taken a grizzly, a moose, elk, deer, wolves, every type of game in the American mainland. I'm surprised he didn't want it cremated with him.

I myself have an 870 Express Tactical, and have been scoping out a V3 Tactical for home defense.

It’s sad that they are no longer in Ilion, NY. They haven’t been the same since DuPont sold the company.

Remington has a lot to prove before it's reputation comes back

Still got 3 trusty 12 Guage 870s from back in the day. If they can get back to that kind of reliability and quality/durability, they won't fail.

Good to hear - " better quality". My uncle bought one of the original bdl 7mm Reminton mag. Consistently made shots out to around 500 yd.s on mule deer - great gun.

I think Ron technically has that backwards. The “real Remington” from a legal sense is the ammunition company. It why the ammunition’s domain name is just Remington and the guns are Remarms.

I actually have a Remington 700 that is about a year old. It’s nothing special but it’s fine for the price. I got the one that comes with the Magpul stock. After changing the trigger out for a Timney it is as accurate as the Christensens, and the Seekins. The bolt is reasonably smooth. Nothing wrong with it.

Just recently bought a Remington premier over under 28 guage that was made by Sabatti around 2010. It's a great gun. Good wood and scrolling on the receiver.
Shoots great, functions flawlessly. Midis daughter hit 18 then 19 first time firing it. It had became one of my favorites.
I own barretta, browning, krieghoff, stogers, etc. Nothing wrong with that gun at all.

The new Remarms guns i have handled have had excellent fit and finish...I am very tempted to buy a new 870 Wingmaster 20ga 26"

Greed is what put Remington out of business. Glad to hear that they are trying to remedy the problem.😊

Had bought a new 870 exp. didn't like to open on trap loads, let alone anything else. Had to bump it on the ground, pawn shop!

I also believe you have it backwards Ron. The original president of Remington stayed with the ammo manufacturing. The mutiny board of directors fron the former Remington have the fire arms. The newer rifles are actually manufactured over seas by the same company that makes Begarra. That is why the company split. The lower quality came from over seas production since the early 2000's. Today, every manufacturer using the Remington action platform is coming from the same overseas production facility.
The best your getting today with rifle platforms is from hammer forged barrels. 1" MOA. A German technology. The typical rifle with factory loads prior to 2000. 1/2" MOA using billet drilled and reamed barrels. Like the extensively accurate Remington 700 from yester year.
You have enought time in the Game Ron to have noticed that.

Had a Remington 22-250 in like 2002 you would cycle the bolt about 4 times and it would discharge.

So true. I used to work for BassPro, selling guns. We would frequently get 870s in that had surface rust on them. That parkerizing they put on the express guns is utter garbage

You have very nice shirts. May you link us to where you buy those robust shirts. We like them

☹ Shockingly, even though Federal Now Owns The Ammunition Portion, the Quality of the Ammunition is still Terrible! My friend had 5 rounds in a box of 20 shells not fire! 🤯

A comment on Remington “quality” before they went bankrupt I bought a 308 ADL on year end close out. Under $300. I bought the ADL because I was planning to change it up. A Knoxx Blackhawk recoil reducing adjustable stock, a Kwik clip mag conversion, and a Rifle Basix trigger. Now at over $600 I have a tack driver. I don’t think you can buy anything today at that price to match it. A close friend of mine found a old old stock 308 700 20” bull barrel that he picked up. A scope and a new trigger has produced the only gun I’ve seen shoot multiple one hole groups at 100(match ammo).I think that they may have scrimped on triggers and finish but I think a 700 is still a 700!

Don't know how true it is. I was reading that their rifle actions were failing and accidents were causing law suits.
